Good night yall! Was hoping for a late night rally from the dawgs but it was just too late.
A big question mark on our HC who gave up this game in the 6th inning. That was quitting.
I wouldn't call it quitting by Burroughs. It's more "stubbornness", like Wade Slimtoneaux's attitude of "this is the way I do it and I am NOT changing". He simply refuses to pull a struggling starter because he has no faith in our bull pen. Sutton got absolutely ROCKED AGAIN, but then he yanks the bullpen guys after a few pitches. Yet we are way down because of a horrible starting pitcher and batters who can't seem to score a run until the 7th inning.
Coach said he wasn't opening up a can of worms, but said basically if J'Mar Smith gave full attention to baseball he would be playing in the Big Leagues. J'Mar had a double, 2 RBIs and gunned down a runner at 2nd with his arm. He was drafted by San Diego out of high school. Wonder if that gets in his head. 2 Byrd signers gave up football for full attention to baseball this year.
And if J'Mar Smith gave full attention to football he would be the next Dak Prescott in the NFL.
Nate Harris will start tomorrow. Nate came to coaches and wanted to start. Hope rain holds up. It does seem our batting is slow to get going in course of our games. UAB has worse statistics in conference. I believe their coach got 1000th win tonite
This was a bad loss. Can't give up 14 runs on a Friday night. Nate will get it done tomorrow. Dawgs must win Sunday, too.
It was the SOS we saw against USM and other losses when we let things get out of hand before pulling the starter. The worst part tonight was that it was obvious in the 5th that he was spent. Then he stays in the game until after he brings down the entire team.
This loss was on our HC. He brags on Jamar in the post game (who did a great job) and blasts players he says are pouting and playing for their own stats, but Jamar is the ONLY player he has tried to insert in the lineup other than Bates who rode the pine tonight.
I don't know if he has no faith in the bullpen or what, but you have to act when your starter is obviously done.
Our defense did not help our pitchers in the sixth tonight. It's a long list of non scorable errors. Routine fly balls getting over our outfielder's heads was the most glaring. Those were two outs that were not made well before UAB got the real rally going.
