I hate to say it, but Sutton needs to be pulled from the weekend rotation. Maybe a mid week starter but probably just bullpen.
Daigle, I have no idea what to say about that situation. He literally can't make contact with anything. This was about the worst possible way we could start this series, getting blown out at home by a sub 200 RPI team. Just when I think we're turning the corner...
Ahlrich and Sullivan have been fairly efficient in limited work and deserve more mound time for us. If you can't throw strikes, please have a seat in the dugout.
Ahlrich- 1.98 ERA, 4-1 record, 27.1 innings, 30 strike outs vs 20 hits and 13 walks
Sullivan- 2.65 ERA, 0-0 record, 17.0 innings, 17 strike outs vs 15 hits and 6 walks
Sutton- 6.62 ERA, 5-3 record, 51.2 innings, 20 strike outs vs 38 hits and 15 walks
Yep. Coach gave up on this game based on the three relievers after Sutton and by leaving Sutton in the game when it was PAINFULLY obvious that he had nothing left. Then, when Tech gets back in it (if you consider getting within 8 runs is "back in it", obviously HCLB does) he blows two innings from Follis.
This is a freaking conference game, what exactly are you saving your relievers for, especially assuming Harris throws 8 innings. If he doesn't then there are more troubles than this team can overcome.
So, you basically have two games to manage your relievers in. Game 1 and Game 3, which means they also get a day of rest in between. Good move to have Harris pitch Saturday.
So, now, you can throw ALL of your relievers on Friday and then again on Sunday.
This really ain't hard to figure out!
At this point, with the talent on this team and the competition Tech is currently playing, not making the conference tournament should be sufficient grounds for termination.
Why did it take Burroughs 11 hits and 4 runs to finally realize that Sutton needed to be pulled, and that he does not deserve to be a weekend starter based on his current performance. Burroughs was pltifully out-coached by the opposing coach with a roster filled with inferior talent. Burroughs did not have a winning record at Northweatern, and it appears he will do likewise at Tech. His base-running strategy reminds me so much of Simoneaux--total lack of any consistent strategy at all.
I left when the score was 11-0. It was to painful to watch. It was 13-0 when I got to my car.
On the post-game show he ranted and raved about J'mar. Well, he is the head coach so why doesn't he start him, or make him the dh. Daigle has been unable to hit a bull in the butt with a base fiddle.
If Burroughs can't win with the talent he has now, then he had better be a super recruiter because he is loaded with seniors. His challenge to win next year increases exponentially. I will not bet a dime on his ability to win consistently. The odds ain't looking to good.
Game 2: T1- Nate Harris picked off a baserunner on 2nd in a rundown to 3rd.
B1- Gladu with a double, but gets stranded.
T2- UAB down in order. The third one was a Harris strike out (he struck him out about 3 times- looking and finally swinging).
B2- Tech down in order.
T3- UAB down in order.
B3- Leadoff Ullrich hit by pitch. Sac bunt. RBI DOUBLE BY HAMILTON (his first this year)! Washam single- runners at the corners. RBI single for Gladuuuuuuu! Diaz walked on 4 straight pitches to load the bases. Double play strands the bases loaded.
T4- Leadoff single. Pop foul out to catcher Hamilton.
He wasn't stranded. He was called out on a double play for not tagging up on a weird play where the UAB outfielder fell down on the warning track, dropped the ball but apparently caught it on his chest without the ball hitting the ground. Our runners didn't know if he caught it or not.
Dawgs take the lead on a Colby Hamilton RBI double! 1-0 Bot3
Dawgs add another run on a Gladu RBI single! 2-0 Bot3
We are terrible hitting team when baseloaded with just 1or no out. How many time that we hit into double play when baseloaded.
B4- Lunceford leadoff walk. Sac bunt. Ullrich walks. Skelton walks. Bases are loaded yet again. New pitcher. RBI bloop single for Hamilton (his 2nd RBI today). Fielder's choice RBI for Jordan W. Gladuuuuuuu with a triple! Hell yes! Throwing error plates Gladu!
