    Baseball 2017 Baseball RPI

Tech is #41 in the RPI entering this week, down from #35 entering last week despite going 4-1 with a Top 25 win. We were up to #33 entering the UAB series.

WKU is one of the worst teams in the country, and Tech's remaining schedule only offers no Top 50 resume opportunities. Maybe ULL can eventually get there. Tech's predicted RPI is #46, which would most likely leave us in the First Four Out of the NCAA Tournament.

I'm in disbelief Burroughs isn't trying to add a couple good RPI road games to replace ULM and Arky State during these last few midweeks. You could see this coming a mile away. I have a bad feeling we're all going to regret Burroughs' decision to do nothing.

are we certain he's not trying to find a replacement.

The Bulldogs will be looking to add an opponent later in the season to replace the cancelled game.

We know he didn't want one this week...based on what he said in the two interviews I've heard.

Not that it matters much, but when I checked NCAA RPI on Friday morning we were at 35.

Last week on the coach's show Burroughs said he was comfortable with where we were. Didn't need to add any games. Just focus on C-USA games. Something to that effect.

Did anybody get to listen to today's coach's show? They haven't archived any of them.

I thought that might be it. Which formula does the NCAA use?

I checked the Top 50 today, and Warren Nolan exactly mirrored the official NCAA RPI.

Okay. Maybe they had not made the adjustment when I checked on Friday morning. I thought it was strange for it to have stayed the same overnight with so many Thursday games being played last week.

No NCAA selection committee ever does Tech any favors so there's no point hoping for one. The team needs to pretty much win out and then either win the conference tournament outright or come very very close otherwise whoever the numbnut selection know-it-alls are they will use every dissuasion imaginable to deliberately keep Tech out, record or RPI be damned.

The whole thing is just a part of one gigantic conspiracy beginning with ever single umpiring/refereeing/officiating team that comes to Ruston. My theory is that in the big picture of things Ruston isn't exactly the greatest place to have to spend an away from home working weekend so these crews intentionally screw Tech over in hopes Tech will complain about their work. Thus when the smoke clears the league won't be as inclined to send them back... Then for those umpiring/refereeing/officiating teams its mission accomplished, they get to work the more entertaining game sites.

Baseball has historically been fair in the at large selection process. It's nothing like MBB where non P5 teams in the 30s are left at home in favor of P5 teams in the 50s. The NCAA baseball tournament is not about money since there is no real money being made.

As '06 has pointed out this year is almost a 180 from last year with quality wins coming at the end of the season last year helping our RPI move to the positive. This year we will flat line at best. I believe low 40s will be good enough, but maybe not.

If this team was 12-6 or 13-5 in conference, as it should be, then this conversation isn't happening. Winning on the field eliminates the uncontrollables. With 13 games left we need to get to about 38 wins or go 11-2 the rest of the way and win a few games in the tourney putting us at or over 40 wins; otherwise we will have to win the tourney.

Most likely scenario is 36 wins (24%). We have about a 19% chance to win 38 or more. 40 is still in the realm of possibilities but very unlikely (0.79%).

Thats just in the regular season though.
