If he received financial aid from both sports, he probably contributes to both.

The APR is calculated as follows:
    • Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.
    • A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.
    • In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
In 2015-16 and beyond, teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships.

So basically all players must stay in school and have above required GPA. Does this impact outgoing transfers? Do they have to stay for all three quarters?

J'Mar is on football scholarship, not baseball. --> I assume he only contributes to football APR.

Football always has a scholarship limit hit, even if the player is receiving TOPs and paying the balance on his own.

8 or 9 of Grambling's sports were at 930 or below.

Tech's APR is second to last in CUSA and this fact should be unacceptable to all of us. This is no way to build any program. If the fact that our scores rival Grambling's more than they do our CUSA peers doesn't embarrass you, it should. Maybe some of our coaches need a boot up their asses. I'd start with Holtz. He needs to get off his ass and start demanding more from his players when it comes to academics, period.

He has gotten off his ass. He has been recovering from Dykes' mess for 4 years.

Seems to have turned Cal around, before his firing:

Similarly, football registered it's best ever four year APR with a score of 978, up 33 points over the past four years. The team's one* year APR was 991, which followed a 997 from the previous year's results. The 991 score was also second highest among all football programs in the Pac12 for 2015-16.

He had a different set of standards at Cal. Jucos and others coming and leaving w/out graduation was not allowed.
