I lean slightly towards failure considering Tech did less this year than last year with essentially the same team. Having said that Tech was at least better than they have been in recent years. On the whole I'm thankful for what this group of players have done for Tech and hope Burroughs can build on that in the coming years. I do think he needs to change some of his strategies though.

Based on RPI we finished higher than 84% of the D1 programs - so hard to argue we were unsuccessful but the fact we finished that high & DID NOT make a Regional SUX.

Misrable ending, but a winning season, awards, appearance in the top 30 before the first faulter.
(Wish we'd seen more of the roster in action. We are left pretty much left wondering what we have coming back.)

Dittos! Basically Coach's answer for everything, "that's baseball". Maybe, but Coach you came into your first season with basically the same team as last year, and you could not get us back to NCAA Regionals. Losing the the last series of the season to Middle Tenn and bounced early in CUSA Tournament. It is all about how you finish. I look at next season and I see MAJOR rebuilding.

Not a failure. We certainly had a phenomenal start and got to #24 in the Coaches Poll. But the finish was very disappointing.

When a team starts 15-2 and finishes 21-18, goes two and done in the conference tournament, and misses the NCAAs completely after talk of hosting a regional, that season has to be considered a failure.

This team peaked in early March and faded. Not something a team with NCAA experience should have done.

We had enough big wins and did well enough that this season can't be deemed a failure, especially given how bad Tech used to be. I won't call it a success since we didn't make a regional, but we were in the conversation, so I'll call it something in between.

Re: Was this season a success, failure, or something in between?

IMHO our season was lower than "something in between" but above "failure". Tech grew the program with big wins over ranked teams. This resulted in getting our name in the same conversation with the more established programs which helps in recruitment of better players to advance the program.

Just above failure after such a promising start then a terrible beginning and disappointing ending to conference play. Confernce play ultimatley doomed a season that had so much promise and fanfare but big wins keep season from being complete failure.

Last year the wins stood out.

This year other than Lafayette and McNeese in Ruston, the losses stand out...Arkansas game 2 , swept by USM, horrible call by the ump to kill our mo vs. UTSA, losing 2 out of 3 at Middle, and going oh fer in Biloxi.

Not making the tournament was a huge let down, but I understand why it happend.

Failure. No participation trophies this year. Hopefully next year if we win the first 14 we can manage not to completely fall apart at the end.

SLU got an at-large bid and is part of the cannon fodder in BR, with Rice and Texas Southern. Still, they got in. Last year I said IF we're gonna hire an SLC coach, get the guy at SLU. Instead, lil Tommy Mac decided to help out a mediocre coach from his alma mater.

This year is a perfect carbon copy of what Burr has done in his HC career. Some of us call this year a failure. Burr calls it "par for the course."

I would say "disappointment." ... Starting pitching was off from a year ago. ... As was clutch hitting. ... We were in good position to make the tournament with two weeks left, but folded down the stretch.

Re: Was this season a success, failure, or something in between?

Disappointment if compared to last year, but a success if compared to most of the last 10-15 years of baseball.... so somewhere in between. Another 35+ wins without a regional appearance and then I might start to rethink my position. While we want our teams to win a national championship every year as fans, the consistency that we are starting to witness at Tech is something that hasn't happened as far back as the 60's or 70's in some sports. This consistency is the most important step in getting where we want to be. Basketball is a good example right now, winning a good bit of games the last 7 or so years, but no NCAA appearance. I know we have played above our skill level at times to get the number of wins we have, but we need consistent post season play. Either NIT with some wins, or the NCAA. That program needs post season skins now.

Baseball isn't quite there yet, but they are getting close.

Football needs a conference title not just a division title, because barring a special year and a bowl access game, a CUSA title and a win in the best bowl available is what we have in front of us.
