42 players. 7 over the roster limit and 14 over scholarship limit. I know J'Mar is on football scholarship. Maybe a lot of these guys are on tops or walk-ons? I'm guessing a few will transfer as well.

11.7 baseball scholarships with 25% being the minimum amount of the scholarship. Yes, TOPS helps us a lot and yes some of the high school guys will likely red shirt. I'm not sure many Louisiana baseball players expect much more than a 25% ride. These guys have been preparing for college baseball for 12 years or so and know the funding limits.

I heard Goff give a speech to some high school players and parents. Said he was not looking to bring anyone to redshirt and said he only wanted players on his team that wanted to play pro ball. I instantly liked him when I heard him say those 2 things. Kids can red-shirt for different reasons, but its not used as much in baseball as football.

Red shirting jucos is not cool except for late injuries (we have one of those this year) or some pitchers(we have one or two of those this year).

I have no problem red shirting a high school guy. Why burn a year when they are going to play very sparingly?

FWIW, Goff red shirted three out of his first class (including JMar).

Realistically, how many true freshman can come in and make an impact at this level?

Maybe it was a sales pitch. Depending on the program, the redshirt is usually not used in college baseball unless it is an injury. The need for arms is plentiful...

I think we red shirted 7 this year. Two of those were jucos. Five were true freshmen.
