My son finished the youth camp today. Had a blast and won the Gatorade award.
LSU actually helped our recruiting this year with this move https://www.si.com/college-football/...-texas-blocked.
Within the past two weeks, Texas, Texas A&M, Houston and Arkansas were informed that they are no longer welcome to work camps in Louisiana. Louisiana Tech is now the only school affiliated with Southeastern Louisiana’s June 8 camp. LSU has replaced Texas A&M on June 11.
Next year the out-of-state recruiters will get the rules changed and be all over Louisiana's HS football athletes.
Unfortunately I wasn't there with him. My wife took a few days off and took him up to Ruston. She said the coaches handed out participation certificates to all the kids then one coach (Not Holtz but wife wasn't sure who) made a big speech which she barely paid attention to because she had no idea that it pertained to him. She said it was basically for bringing the best effort to camp every day. He was pumped. He got to take pictures with a bunch of the coaches including coach Holtz. My wife said the social media director took some pictures too for the website or social media, but i haven't seen anything pop up yet.
Noah is 8 and heading to 3rd grade.
Our youth football camps began in 1976 with other sports following in the years after. Participation in that first year was much bigger than anticipated, and the camps in the 70s and 80s almost overwhelmed the staffs, as participation was so high.
Coach Lambright made the decision in that first year that our camps would be used to help recruit students for the university. Not student-athletes but students. His belief was that if the university put its best foot forward it would not only help his football team but the university as a whole.
In a youth camp 999 out of every 1000 participants will never see a college playing field or court. But Coach Lambright believed that kids that are from families who cared enough to send their child to this type of camp can be the core of a student body years down the road. It would help with the walk-on program and with high school coaches around the state and in our recruiting region.
In fairness, one other school in the state became known for this, as well - McNeese. They put a lot into their camps, and it's clearly been a part of their success over the decades.
And then, dynamics of camp financials changed when instead of the coaches renting the facilities and splitting the proceeds (camp fees), their contracts were changed to include working summer youth champs and the university managed (or kept the money) instead of the coaches. This happened in both the basketball and football champs in the 1970s, thanks to our auditors.

Huge news as Hal Mumme says on @991TheGame that he has turned in #LSU HC Ed Orgeron to the NCAA in regards to camp blocking.
I want the Irish of Noter Dame!
Says Ed:
"LSU won’t say they’re the reason Texas, Michigan, Houston and other schools have been booted from camps in Louisiana, but the other people involved say they are. Orgeron is sticking with the belief that it helps the state.“A lot of times, when you have Louisiana Tech there, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, they’re waiting for the guys we don’t offer, and they offer,” he said. “What a great opportunity for our young men.”

The PR spin begins... Looks like all the Louisiana DI schools will be part of an LSU camp in about a week... https://twitter.com/LSUfootball/stat...33818071273473
