Great job. Right out of Wiki. The reason the alt-right term came about was so that it might be used as more of catch all. White Nationalist is too strong and lacks credibility. Alt-right is very confusing to most. They have worn out and over used the racist term. Only liberal socialist get to come up with new labels for conservatives.

Yes, any Trump supporter (or really anyone who does no hate Trump) is now labeled as alt-right by those in the drive by media.

Bannon and Breitbart openly claim to be a platform for the idealogy. The Breitbart article I posted is kind of a defense of the alt-right and argues it encompasses many types of "Republicans."

    Re: Alt-right

My concern for my church and my personal perception is the lack of understanding what the term is really referring to. I know you don't believe all your Trump supporting friends are alt-right, but it's only because you understand the term. Liberal talking heads are using the term more and more now to describe anybody who voted for Trump.

It also so mis-understood in the SBC that they had to discuss the topic before finalizing the resolution. In summary, it went like this...

SBC: We need to denounce racism and alt-right beliefs.

Reply: We denouced racism many years ago. Why not just denounce white nationalism?

SBC: You can never denounce racism too many times. Nobody knows that white nationalism is the same as alt-right, so we need to spell it out.

Reply: We need to denounce something that we've never claimed to be?

SBC: Yes, you can never denounce anything controversial regarding race enough times.

Perhaps they have to keep their criticism broad and generic so as not to jeopardize their tax exempt status.

It's the world we live in.

The common theme for years has been, "we need to have dialogue about race problems"

Okay let's have that discussion, but in the past when the discussion begins the problems causes are off limits for discussion. Can't fix it without identifying the problem.

I will say the church, for the most part, has taken the right approach, but just saying we need to do more (in a church resolution) is not a solution. WHAT do we need to do more of?

First, there is not some alt-right wing at the SBC arguing the other side of this motion. The issues were around what the committee considered poor wording of the submitted resolution.

I saw that. The comments that followed were concerning to me. They were littered with ignorant comments like, "It's time we (the SBC) do something!", but there were no suggestions on what to do other than "something". These kind of people like to make empty statements they think make them look Christ like. Then they usually want to have a meeting to discuss "doing something". Ask many of them to serve as a community volunteer an they'd run like they stole something.
