That is possibly the best write up ever of how the P5 conferences, led by the SEC, have literally bought guaranteed success in NCAA sports. It is a shame that there has been absolutely no resistance to the NCAA's absurdly disproportionate revenue distribution collusion in the spirit of fair play.

I'll throw this out there. We need to seek out some of those volunteer NCAA positions. It appears Tech is not as involved at this level. Someone please correct me otherwise. Our university needs more representation on NCAA committees and task forces. It's as if these committees don't know who we are when it's crunch time or bubble time. Basketball or baseball or at some point, softball. Don't try to tell me there are not alot of nods and winks going on between all the good ol' boys who are serving on these selection committees.

    Fascinating breakdown!

Also, it's amazing we've done even what we've done with the small budget we have (in any sport).

I bet Dawgpix is right as usual. The real selection meetings are held on golf courses.

    I agree DP -

I think we also are seeing that our AD and the our conference commissioner as a whole, has very few "contacts" at the national level in most areas....

Mrs. Peanut does nothing to lobby for us or any other CUSA school outside of UAB (see MT's seeding the last two years in the tourney)

And our AD doesn't fight or extend the resources to fight for our inclusion in postseason

He has exactly ONE feather in his hat scheduling wise - the Dr. Pepper Classic for baseball

Mtn West/Missouri Valley have a challenge - we need to team up with another conference

    http://www.mvc-sports.com/mbasketbal.../#.WTgrOOvyupp

Annual matchups for teams in the Challenge Series will be based upon factors including the previous year’s achievements, records and RPI rankings, as well as projected rankings/strength of teams in the upcoming season, based on composite sources. Each season will be considered separately in terms of matchups, therefore, games from the previous year’s Challenge Series may not be returned.
I doubt AAC would want to team up with us but here is how it could go - bottom 3 C-USA RPI don't get to participate (sorry USM, FIU, UNT)

    16 SMU 116 Louisiana Tech
    12 Cincinnati 34 MTSU
    62 Houston 223 UTEP
    64 UCF 136 ODU
    119 Memphis 174 Rice
    121 Connecticut 108 Marshall
    140 Tulsa 199 UAB
    134 Temple 225 Western Kentucky
    214 East Carolina 244 Charlotte
    292 Tulane 258 UTSA
317 South Florida 281 Florida Atlantic
    331 Southern Miss
    337 FIU
    338 North Texas

I emailed Judy about this basketball challenge idea a while back. Here's her response:

Thanks for your note and contacting me. While we have yet to accomplish this, we will continue to work on it as we really like the concept. Sometimes it is difficult to get all schools in two leagues to agree so we may work on some challenges with the schools that would like to participate. It also helps to have a television partner enthused on the arrangement and committed to providing exposure. So, there are many variables involved, but it would be a great outcome as we know scheduling is very difficult for some.

    Thanks again.

    Judy

    She mentioned a TV partner.

This isn't about getting teams TV exposure.

    It would be nice, nonetheless.

I assume the TV partner would make it financially feasible to fund travel expenses because it would most likely add a plane flight for each game involved instead of a regular bus trip like most home-and-homes.

Honestly, I don't think this is a feasible or good idea anymore. When I sent that email, it was back when she was associate commish before C-USA basketball got so awful. Look at SportDawg's RPIs. C-USA only had 1 Top 100 RPI team last year. No conference that we would want to be associated with would sign up for a challenge with C-USA performing as horrible as we are on the hardwood. I guarantee you there's absolutely a 0% chance the AAC would sign up for it.

Based on Mark Adams' post, we are looking at a challenge with the CAA or MAC as a best case scenario, and both those conferences may view C-USA as beneath them. Do you really think a H&H with Ohio or the College of Charleston is worth the travel expense?

As others have mentioned, our conference RPI drags us down as well.

Looks to me like Konkol has had us teamed up with the swac for the last two years.
