You guys make this board awesome. We got 4 coaches votes. Can we be excited?
I'll explain why it is important.
Most of these coaches don't even vote. They allow their SID or Operations person to cast the votes instead. It is a popularity contest for the "lesser known teams". Assume we win our first four games. With preseason votes we are likely ranked at 4-0. W/out preseason votes we aren't. See why preseason votes are important?
don't drink too much Kool Aid before we have played our first game
With the three toughest games coming within the first four games, we stand a huge chance to be in the top 25, and maybe the top 15 if we win the first four games. This is a very tall order, but doable. Conquering the reigning two time champ of the CUSA and two SEC teams will get a lot of attention.
All easier said than done, however. Time for a breakout year!!
Yeah, it's nearly impossible to get that coveted spot at the grown up table with out preseason votes.
I wanna say that during Crowtons last year or Bicknells first year we had some Coaches Poll preseason votes. It was USA Today/Coaches Poll back then and was always friendly to the non BCS schools in regards to the "others with votes". The Head Ball Coach was the one that got in trouble for admitting that he doesn't fill out his poll, that he just gives it to the AD or SID dept.
4 votes is a big deal. There are several in front of us but I can see 3 or 4 losing in the first week and then 3 or 4 losing in the second week. That puts us in a really great spot for our game with Moo Cake. Winner has a shot at #25.
Any Tech fan who had watched our 2012 team and studied up just a little on Illinois and Virginia was not surprised by those wins. We should have won A&M too, but it took our offense an two quarters to get going. Illinois in 2014 was no surprise either. Ole Miss was HORRIBLE when we beat them in 2011.
Big wins were both Bama wins, Michigan State, and Miss St and Cal at home. The coach speak is, "Any time you go on the road and beat a (insert P5 conference) you did well." They do that to cover the losses that should have been Wins...losses like Kansas, Kansas St, Miss. St, etc..
