Usain Bolt goes down in flames!!!

In the World T & F 100 meter final, TWO Americans beat Bolt. Justin Gatlin finally got Bolt winning gold, and youngster Christian Coleman beat Bolt as well, taking silver. The British crowd has been booing Gatlin for years. They hate him and booed him roundly today. And of course, they worshiped at the altar of Bolt. But, Gatlin silenced the crowd with a great win.

This is why sports are great. And....you just never really know. Gotta show up every time, and take nothing for granted.

Re: Usain Bolt goes down in flames!!!

    I'm celebrating him today!

Oh, let's see, yeah he served a 4-year suspension during the peak of his physical potential, when he would have been incredible. He did the crime, served his time, and now at the age of 35 beat that arrogant prick Usain Bolt! Hah!!! Oh, his "crime" was using PEDs.

I find it curious that the same public booing Gatlin, cheer that dude from the RSA who won the long jump today, and who made a come back in his career too. Why did he need a come back? Well, cuz he served time in a REAL PRISON for operating a meth lab and selling drugs to kids!!! Oh, but that's okay, eh, Jubru? After all, the fellow did a real crime, did time, and now has gotten his life back together and straightened out. That's good. (and it is good he has turned his life around). But what he did was much worse than anything Gatlin did. Gatlin screwed up his own career....he didn't try to hook kids on a dangerous drugs.

Gatlin beat Bolt!!! Hah! hah! Love it!

Gatlin has been caught and punished twice. Whatever group is in charge of that stuff has to come out and say Gatlin was clean for me to believe he was for this race. He's well past his prime but has been getting better? Or at least enough to beat a younger and better Bolt? No. Great Gatlin won, but not worth celebrating.

I will grant you that Bolt may have sandbagged his performance some in order to "savor" the moment but turned it down too much.

I don't follow the long jump, so no idea who you are talking about. I wouldn't celebrate him, either. Good he's turned his life around, but he shouldn't be celebrated. Not being celebrated is not the same as being continually punished.

The 4 X 100 men's final could be interesting. Gatlin vs. Bolt on the anchor leg.

That is if the US doesn't drop the baton first...

Great interview with Gatlin this morning. He holds no grudges against anyone who has booed him. He didn't say it, so I'll say it, to all you detractors, IN YOUR FACE!!!

BTW, it was mentioned that, like all athletes, Gatlin was tested for substances immediately after his great win. Results: 100% clean!

In other news, awesome, inspiring performance by American Amy Craig who won the bronze in the women's marathon today. She gutted out an incredible closing 10K to get up for 3rd. Mixing it up with all those great Kenyan and Ethiopian runners. Congrats to Amy Craig!

Good for Gatlin. He's been chasing Bolt for a very long time. In fact, IMO he's really the only guy that's been in Bolt's class the last few years. Glad to see Gatlin finally get a win over Bolt. And don't forget, Gatlin is an AMERICAN, and Bolt is not.

Re: Usain Bolt goes down in flames!!!

American Tori Bowie won the women's 100 meter final. Jamaica's Elaine Thompson, the female version of Bolt, faded to 4th. These Jamaicans love to strut around, decked out in $50,000 of gold chains, making Mr. T envious. The British fans adopted the Jamaicans and poured all kinds of support behind them. And of course, the world press loves to sing the praises of 'em too. They paint Jamaica as a big underdog, standing up to the big, bad bully, the USA. Never mind that Bolt and the others are all multi-millionaires living like kings and queens.

It is true Jamaica has built a world class program to develop sprinters, just as Kenya and Ethiopia have developed distance runners. They start 'em young, having camps and even schools where youngsters spend half the day on academics and half the day training. It is their ticket out of poverty if they can develop into good runners. Worth a try.

In other news, the US has no male in the 400 meter final. This is an event we usually dominate, some years we swept the medals in the World Championships. This year we sent three youngsters, two still in college, and they all came up short in the semis. Will have an impact on the 4 X 400 relay for sure. But, our women are as strong as ever in the 400.

Yep. We miss Edwin Moses (400 meter Hurdles) and Michael Johnson (400 meter).

Both amazing runners. Edwin Moses never lost a race in 10 years! The guy was unbeatable and unbelievable. Johnson is the only person to pull off the 400-200 double in World T&F Championship history. That dude from the RSA Van Wierke (sp?) is trying to duplicate that feat. He looked very tired in his 200 semi today.

BTW, the US did have a male in he 400 final, Kerley, but he barely qualified and finished 7th in the final.

US women won gold and bronze in the 400 final. But the gold was not won by Alyson Felix....she settled for bronze. It was her 14th career medal in WTF tying her for the all-time lead. She should become the all-time winningest athlete, male or female, in history when the American women win a medal in the 4 X 400.

    walk -> jog -> run -> sprint -> Bolt

    Clever.

Kerley may have a big future. He's a senior at TX A&M. He destroyed the collegiate record in the 400M back in March. In one year at TX A&M, Kerley has improved his 400M time from 45.1 to 43.7. The current men's world record is held by Wayde van Niekerk, with a time of 43.03.

The WTF (World Track & Field) championships have been the WTF (what the f**k) championships. Never seen so many upsets and surprises. If you won gold last year in Rio, that means you will lose this week in London. Some competitors haven't even gotten close to their PBs (personal best). Okay, there's been a few exceptions. But those exceptions just prove the rule.

A couple of weeks ago, the best racehorse in the world, Arrogate, finished up the track in a race he should have won running backwards. It's crazy out there!

    Never take anything for granted.

Re: Usain Bolt goes down in flames!!!

Justin Gatlin showed up at the pre-relay presser with the results of his drug tests. 100% clean. Well, this is ridiculous. If I were Gatlin I wouldn't have done that. I'd say "eff you!" to the media. Where's Bolt's drug test results?

The 4 X 100 relay finals are this afternoon. This should be awesome. I just hope neither us (the USA) or Jamaica drop the baton or have some hiccup. I want both teams to run their best...no excuses.
