Rummel 34 John Curtis 42
No defense. Have athletes...heck, we have 4 seniors on defense who are among the highest rated prospects in the state, and two are on a national elite list. The defense as a whole is loaded with athletes...but the coaching has failed us. I have never seen a Rummel defense so clueless out there.
Funny thing, it's the offense that has been ravished by injuries, 5 first game starters: 3 OL, our #1 RB and our TE are all out for the year. Also, our #3 and #4 WRs are out for the year. But, the O has mostly overcome those personnel losses and are doing fine. Like last night, we lit up Curtis' vaunted (#1 in some categories in the state) defense. But our D couldn't make a stop when they needed to.
On a side note, former Warren Easton HS head coach...Tony Hull...is now Associate Head Coach at Kansas and is landing all kinds of great recruits out of New Orleans and the area. It's amazing how many stars he has signed....to frickin' Kansas!!! He has locked in Curtis' all-world TE who was recruited by everyone. I mean everyone! Name it: Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc... and they wanted that kid. Kansas??
Overall, the wealth of talent that leaves the state every year is mind boggling. Rummel's super duper WR Jamaar Chase has committed to the UF Gators, for instance.
Rummel 17 St. Augustine 20
Another final minute loss. That's 3 losses when the defense couldn't protect a lead late in the game. Add in the loss to Curtis, a one-possession game when we got close, but our O couldn't punch in a tying TD, and Rummel is 1-4 in close games. (We beat Jesuit 22-21 with a 4th qtr rally).
Tech is also 1-4 in close games (WKU). That's 2-8 between the two. Ugh! it's just one of those years.
Rummel is 5-4, Tech is 4-5, so 9-9 together. Both have suffered losses of key players to injuries. And both have a coach who has had recent success....best in the history of the program...and yet both are being heavily criticized for 2017. Eerily similar.
Go Byrd! Pummel Rummel!
The way we've been playing we'll probably pummel ourselves.
Just a historic side note, this marks the 4th meeting in the playoffs between the two schools. Rummel leads 2-1, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not 2-2 after tonight. Whatever happens, I'll be there to see it.

Byrd vs. Rummel Tonight at Lee Hedges. The last time @cebyrdathletics and @ArchRUMMEL met was Dec. 11th, 2013 in the Championship game. Less than 8 min to go in the 4th. Rummel went for it on 4th and 1. The officials called this a 1st down..... and didn't even measure. SMH

The fighting Denny Durons I think...
Haynesville won 33-3 even with putting the ball on the ground 5 times and draws Oberlin in the Regionals
Homer waxed LaSalle 50 something to 8 which means Logansport travels to Homer
J Hodge rolls
Lincoln Prep rolls
Arcadia rolls
District 1-1A well represented in Regional round

I'll be in Florida over the weekend. Won't be at the game vs. Evangel. Hear that our all-world WR Jamaar Chase (a UF signee) may miss the Evangel game due to an injury. Why not? Most of our 1st string offense is out with injuries.
Congrats to all the state champs.
This year's Curtis senior class is the first one without a state title since the early 70's. They are good, but are finding the sledding a lot tougher in Division I vs. the old 2A.
Time for my annual "make a wish" that we'll see this nonsense gone and the private/public schools together again in the playoffs.
