    I love band threads.

You guys realize that, before front ensembles became a thing, that most marching bands including USC and LaTech marched glockenspiels, xylophones, and timpani, right? And pretty much every commercially available marching band arrangement calls for those instruments. Even the grand master of the march himself wrote for those instruments, in a time well before front ensembles and halftime shows.

ist price is a different story. But for the actual price, I could by a Kia Rio, a ford Fiesta, a Hyundai Accect, a Chevy Spark, a Smartcar, a Fiat, a Nissan Versa, a Toyota Yaris, or a Chevy Sonic...all new.

You'll notice that NSU had the instruments above in their front ensemble, plus many more. You'll notice Tech no longer has a front ensemble...and hasn't for well over a decade.
WTF? Apples vs Oranges. We were VERY CLEARLY talking about HORNS!!! Got it? NSU didn't bring that crap to the football game. They brought HORNS!

Now, go back and find us a 23K horn.

Assuming you want to compare to the MSRP of that Camry. So yes, in accordance with the terms I posted, we settled it.
Now you are simply being disingenuous. Nobody's talking about a Timpani. You know damn well we are NOT talking about every Tech band student --or even a few students-- buying those damn things. Go back and read the posts. We're talking about HORNS and BRASS. That's what's needed, and that's what we've been talking about. You're just trying to move the goal posts because you can't back up what you said.

Best post in this thread. Bands have gotta be smart enough to know the environment that you're performing in. Football games are LOUD venues. So bands need more horns in order to be loud. RhythmDawg doesn't seem to comprehend this.

Glenn Miller used a clarinet lead and created a classic sound:

No, not saying that would work in a marching band. But, just defending the woodwinds a little.

    Carry on!

They had a sideline full of it, but ok. They even had a drum set. Were you at the game?

You're confused. I never said I disagreed with more horns. In fact I 100% agree. You are taking my statements out of context.
