When the Saints were dreadful (and those days have returned). They invented ways to lose games. It was comical. Such as Archie Manning trying to win a game for the Saints vs. the Bears. Saints trailed by 3 pts and had a 2nd and goal at the Bears' 1 yard line. Late in the game. Manning tried a QB sneak but got stuffed, but he rolled and kept fighting only to have the ball knocked out. The fumble got knocked back just like our game, only the Saints managed to recover around the 50. Now facing 3rd and goal from there, Manning completed a pass, but only for about 10 yards. So, the Saints, on 4th and goal punted, pinning the Bears back. Didn't matter. The Bears went on a time-consuming drive and eventually ran out the clock to preserve their 3 pt win.
We used to say "only the Saints could lose a game like that." At least the 87-yard fumble didn't cost Tech the game. That woulda been painful.
How epic would it have been if the 3rd and 93 had been converted?
What fascinates me about the resulting coverage is Miss State is barely mentioned. It's MSU's bumbling and stumbling that is so comical. Tech players were pretty much knocking down MSU players the whole way until the last dash and recovery. You'd think some analysts/commentators would bust MSU for failing to recover the ball.
BTW, what would have happened had MSU kicked the ball another time or two and the ball went out the back of the end zone? Would it have been our ball on, like, the 1/2-yard line or the 20?
It would rank up there with the Stanford Band replay. As in a college football season would not be complete without the replay being shown at least once.
I wish I were wittier but all I've got is "We were about to score, but then we took a 3 & 93" Skyrim rip off.

I'd love for LA Tech to go on a long win streak, and then meet Miss State in a bowl game. At that point we could print up t-shirts that say "Remember 3rd and 93".
OK --we will be the butt of that play for a long time but remember Miss State did not come out looking good either. at least Miss State players surround the ball and kick it for 70 yards and 1 La Tech player battles thru there players and recovers ball. how does Miss State screw that up?
Every one making a big deal out of 3rd and 93 but to me the funniest thing about this is we punted on 4th and goal?

At least they didn't scoop and score from 90+ twice in one game.
Probably, but at 4th and 72 we might set a record with that one too.
