Though sometimes I hope for impeachment or the 25th amendment.
As for Key's motivation/viewpoint re: that verse. Let's be reminded that said blacks who donned the uniform of the British Army did so willingly and for the expressed purpose of killing Americans and defeating the United States of America. Excuse Key, and us today, for not giving a rat's ass if we wanted to kill them first! That's what was meant in that verse. Okay, you join up with our enemy...an invading army bent on destroying our nation. Yeah, we hope to put your ass in a grave.
At the Battle of New Orleans the good ole Brits gave the black regiments what they thought was the toughest job that fateful day, January 8, 1815. To row boats across the Mississippi River and attack the American forts on the west bank and to attack the "battleship" the USS Louisiana, which was anchored on the west bank and using her guns to shell the Brits. Ironically, the only success the Brits had that day was the success of their troops on the west bank. The black regiments, the 1st and 2nd WI Regiments, joined by white British soldiers (the 85th Regiment) dislodged American defenders from the outer defenses and compelled the USS Louisiana to weigh anchor and withdraw. The final assault on the American forts on the west bank was to be coordinated with what the Brits hoped would be a successful attack on the fields of Chalmette. Of course, Andrew Jackson's army destroyed the attacking British and drove them back. The Brits on the west bank were then virtually abandoned and made to fend for themselves the best they could. American forces counter-attacked and chased the Brits, including the two West Indies regiments, through the swamps to awaiting boats. But the pressure was so great the retreating Brits on the west bank didn't have time to get in their boats and just continued along the river toward the Gulf. Eventually, the American commander called off the pursuit and the Brits were left to retreat until many of them were later rescued by the British Navy.
Sorry....history is a hobby.
Point is, former slaves and those free blacks who joined the British Army did so with the intention of destroying the USA. They chose their lot and were made to suffer for said decision too.
Well, they were slaves in the US and Key was an owner. I think it is obvious which of the two were on the “right” side of history.
If we can agree that it was right for Penn State to take down their statue of Joe Paterno, why can’t we agree with taking down statues and “enshrined” national vestiges of those that enslaved black people?
Typical mind-numb libtard. Sad, very sad.
All history that offends somebody should be erased. The WWII museums should all be boarded up. All vintage aircraft and water vessels should be scrapped.
Joe Paterno won a lot of football games, too.
