    Prevent defense that prevents

Dave Arandas attack version of "prevent" defense secured the win for the team down south. Refreshing to see a d-coordinator continue with what worked most of the game instead of playing soft & allowing the other team to drive the field. Maybe Baker watched the game 😀

Do you really think that Baker controls our defense? That prevent defense has Holtz written all over it.

Exactly! COYHCSY has controlled our defense since Diaz gave him back his ability to prevent. Baker is a puppet.

UTSA just lost a game by NOT dropping players back.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

No, UTSA lost because they were predictable. UNT QB Mason Fine was smart enough to know that if the hard blitz from UTSA comes from the middle, you gotta throw it TO THE MIDDLE, because they AREN'T THERE ANYMORE! He executed the play perfectly, and thereby executed UTSA at the same time. Fine READ the blitz! This is something J'Mar desperately needs to learn to do. READ THE DEFENSES!

    That's actually not a counterpoint.

Thats basically why they lost. So many went for Fine that someone was bound to be open. They got to him quick, and it almost worked. But almost doesnt count in football.

The Auburn QB had, at the most, 2 seconds to get rid of the ball, or be buried. That's "one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi" Some of the Auburn WRs were only halfway thru their pattern. But, that is why the OC has to be just as smart and change routes to "hot routes." But, hats off to Arandas.

I agree that predictable defensive strategies are ineffective. The assertion that "prevent defense" always results in loss is not true just as bringing pressure on the qb when the opponent is in hurry-up mode is always a good idea is not true. For every example of the one, I can find an example of the other.

The last play you reference is all about UNT's QB being SMART ENOUGH to understand exactly where the empty space would be (for his receivers) once the blitz was on. The receivers have to understand this as well, and UNT's did. Our own QB & receivers simply have not demonstrated the football intellect to do this. I'm not saying they won't eventually "get it", but you only get 4 years to play college ball. It's time for them to start figuring it out.

That last TD play by UNT last night was as good as any NFL "defensive read" you'll ever see. It was a beautiful read and a great play. Kudos to UNT QB Mason Fine and his UNT teammates for making it happen.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times......college football is ALL ABOUT THE QB!
