Hmmmm. That video is pretty bad. Seems like someone was trying to stir up some racial strife there.

Of course, video means nothing. Remember Michael Brown was portrayed as a gentle giant long after the video surfaced of him stealing the cigars and shoving the store owner on his way out.

That officer handled the stop perfectly. Very straightforward and respectful. Is it protocol for 2 units to respond on a failure to signal? Maybe just because it was at night?

Hopefully nobody partaking of the free drinks will get a DWI going home (or kill anyone while drunk) or become an alcoholic, because there will be reparations to be paid there as well.

It’s all a setup! Or so it will be twisted. Anyone who gets pulled over and ticketed will claim the white man baited them.

Racism has gotten so much worse after 8 years Democrat Obama rule.

Maryland police officer's death ignites a racial firestorm

BY JEAN MARBELLA The Baltimore Sun
    May 27, 2018 04:00 AMUpdated 9 hours 5 minutes ago

BALTIMORE – It's hard to think of a more volatile mix: Four young black males from Baltimore City, accused in the death of a white female police officer in Baltimore County. Authorities say three of the teenagers were breaking into homes when the fourth ran the officer over in a stolen Jeep.
Predictably enough, social media, call-in radio and other forums blew up. A sampling from the Baltimore County Police & Fire Facebook page:
"I was hoping they'd kill him during apprehension. What a waste of life. He's currently breathing air some decent person could be breathing."
"I personally am tired of good for nothing hood rats committing adult crimes and people STILL saying crap like, he had hard times growing up, society made him do these things because he had no role models."

"I hope all you whites have the same level outrage next time one of your youths decide to shoot up a school of innocent children," another wrote. "You all are a disgusting group of devils."
No previous case has generated as much online reaction, county fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost said. Authorities pleaded repeatedly for civility, and county staff took down comments that contained profanity or were typed in all caps. But they have struggled to keep up with the avalanche of angry postings – many of which called for the accused driver to be hanged, shot, run over or raped.
"Sadly, these comments are a microcosm of the conflicts and lack of civility we see in the country right now," Armacost said.

That’s great! Well, we had 3 planes nearly take each other out of the runway today, but at least the person in the tower isn’t qualified.

That is racist to suggest that black people aren’t qualified to be air traffic controllers.

I don't believe anyone is arguing that.

On the other hand, the opposing argument seems to be that the person IS qualified merely because of their race.

Perhaps we should go pull an aspiring rapper from the hood and deem him an airline pilot. When you board that flight remember that protesting is the equivalent of saying ALL black people are not qualified to be pilots. Oh, get the flight insurance...I will forward you the proper beneficiary information.

No one is arguing that...not even in a veiled way. That’s an unhelpful equivocation that serves only to illicit hearty amens from those who already opposed affirmative action.

When there are good arguments to be made, choosing to make bad arguments weakens your position (not YOUR position...which I don’t know...just in general).

Here is the source of the complaint from the article:

"the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees -- determined that the workforce was too white"

So a coalition based on race decided there were too many white people around. With that starting point, the goal could only be to introduce more people that were not "too white" into the labor force. At that point, just being "not white" became a needed qualification for joining the workforce.

Had I read a story about highly qualified non whites who were being denied entrance into the workforce, and who desired to become a member of that workforce, my viewpoint would have been much different. But it doesn't appear the goal was to make sure the profession was "open" to all cultures and races...it was to make sure a deemed percentage of non white employees became part of the workforce.

As for me, there are parts of affirmative action I am in favor of (education, for instance, where there are equal candidate qualifications but limited availability of opportunities) and some I am not. I would never be in favor of any racial bias for an individual job where the most qualified person is denied a position because they upset a racial quota requirement and for no other reason. I think that makes our nation weaker, much like denying people opportunities because of their race made our our nation weaker before the civil rights movement.

Now you are switching from “unqualified” to “not the most qualified.” If both candidates are otherwise substantially equal on merit, are you saying race shouldn’t be a factor?

If both candidates are substantially equal on merit, and a particual culture is significantly underrepresented in the workforce, I think affirmative action is a reasonable policy.

Same thing with college admissions and other stuff not coming to mind right now.

So IF there is a significant number of jobs in an orgnazination and they are held almost all by white people, shouldn’t the organization try to make an effort to hire more qualified minorities? If so, I don’t understand your gripe in this particular case.
