That's not even fair though. Bama is practically NFL lite. What about others on our level. What are some examples of top G5's starting field position and scoring numbers?

I'm not sure. I'll try to find them.

UPDATE: our average is 27.2, good for #106. Not sure if that's opponent adjusted. Bama is 37.4 (#1).

I wasn't trying to say we're close to that number or that we could reach it. Just that a large part of their success is their control of field position.

Oh, I knew what you meant by giving Bama's numbers. There's a reason they are so efficient. We would be much more efficient even with an extra 5 yards + in field position.

Is our defense getting better? I really can't tell. Take away MSU, and the numbers seem respectable compared to where they've been in the past...at least for points.

It feels like we're a few quick linebackers away from being able to "bend but don't break" with the best of them.

I was as frustrated as anyone with the quick slants, but for some reason, USA went away from that in the 4th. I'm guessing our DL started batting some balls and they had to go another direction.

Yes at LB and corners we are better. We are not better at safety. I'm disappointed in our DLine. We still miss tackles even after we have them wrapped up, but I know that can't be the S&C coach. Even though that has been happening for years we all know he is the best.

I believe they are being coached differently than in the past. Not sure yet if it is good.

Boston Scott is a great RB

Our young WR (freshman) got some playing time: hardy and George Scott

Defense played solid. Two quality picks. One took points off the board.

    Smith is still progressing.

I keep telling people this is a young team.

    My positives...

-I love the DQ race, I knew cone who would win. Blizzard won the last two meets.
-I liked the Ron Burgundy get loud clip. It definitely got my attention.
-Boston Scott is a gamer, he needs to be out there more either at RB or WR.
-The renovated restrooms with AC. It's no longer a humid damp sour piss environment.

Almost all of Tech's scoring drives came on drives shorter than 70 yards. Here's where Tech's "successful" drives started:

    Started Result
    Tech 31 Touchdown
    Tech 38 Touchdown
    Tech 42 FG
    Tech 19 Missed FG
    Tech 10 Touchdown
    Tech 11 FG
    USA 27 Touchdown

Of course, there were also the 7 Tech drives in the middle of the game where we were awful. Those were the drives where Tech averaged starting from its' own 13-yd line.

The message here is clear...LA Tech has a much higher propensity to score points when it starts a drive from its' own 30-yd line or better.

No that was the announced number. Anybody that believes our stadium was 80% full is drinking the McClelland Juice.

The Defense allowed just 3 points in the 2nd half.
    We won the turnover battle.
    J'Mar tossed 3TDs against 0 INTs
After a couple of rough games, Boston Scott looked like himself again
    Cooper's two picks
A week after allowing 17 4th quarter points to lose, we returned the favor to put things away
Only 3 penalties for 11 yds

It looked pretty full on TV after the game started. The lower NW section appeared empty, but the whole West Side South looked full and a good crowd on the east side. A good 18- 19,000 butts in the seats or close to 20,000. Pretty good for a nobody opponent and coming off a loss.
