The Tech administration including Guice just absolutely loves Skip and his mediocrity - they will all spin a bunch of excuses about how we just have a young team, several injuries, etc. etc
That right there is a "Bad JuJu" that has been festering for 2 years.
If you really listened to Dave and Teddy, they made a lot of comments that if you were listening reflected back on the coaching, lack of discipline, lack of coaching, no team leadership, and players just not being motivated. Maybe I did a lot of reading between the lines, but not sure I have ever heard Dave and Teddy make the kind of comments they made today.
This is our reality. We had enough talent--and enough poor competition--to be competitive and go bowling the past few years. But as teams in our conference hire young, hungry coaches looking to win and move up--while we continue to play emotionless, go-through-the-motions football--we'll move closer and closer toward what Rice has now become. And as a result, we'll lose more and more recruits to our peers, further exacerbating the problem. This is year 5, and we're in a decline while our conference mates are climbing. Hope I am wrong, but I think we're sitting home during bowl season for the first time in 4 years. And while that is discouraging enough, the most unnerving thing is that the folks in charge will probably be OK with it.
Yep, and all that talk for YEARS about how we'd never get any better until we improved our facilities and got more "stuff" has proven to be a red herring. Having FOOTBALL PLAYERS and GOOD COACHING is the foundation of the program, not a $20MM building or a new press box. No doubt those are nice and can have a tangential effect, but they have absolutely nothing to do with making a team execute on Saturday.
