I'm aggravated by that run play, too. If you don't have the correct O-line to run it, it will destroy your offense. I think Tech's just running a different version of the option play. Tech has now gotten to the least common denominator as an option running team.

Didn't a coach get fired, once upon a time, for running the option at Tech?

I just don't get the "warm fuzzies" with this 2017 team. I expect them to screw it up....no matter what. It's approaching the status of "indifference" too, and that is very unusual for me. I think we will lose Saturday, and it doesn't bother me. Something is wrong...

I have some hope! This is going to come down to defense and I still believe that is our strength this year. I think we can stop them from racking up a lot of points like they have in most of their games. Our offense will score 24 to 34 points. It will come down to if we play 3 quarters or 2 quarters. I have no faith that we will play all 4. At the same time, I think we will play more than one.

Seriously, if Bonnette is healthy, we have a MUCH better chance to outscore them.

Bonnette healthy? That guy is more brittle than glass. After you throw to him 3 or 4 times in a game, he'll be clocking himself out via an injury. He'll feel like his work is done for the day. He "got hurt" last Saturday without a Rice player ever touching him.

This game has serious ramifications for the program. Over the last 3 seasons, we've been a top tier program in CUSA, in contention for the CC. IF we win Saturday, I think it gives this team some much needed confidence against FAU and a chance to win out. If we lose, I could see us dropping 3 of the last 4 and possibly ALL of them which would be a major step back. Its been difficult to be excited about this years team, but I'm praying and pleading for a win this Saturday.

As long as those 3 or 4 times he is in, he catches a deep throw.... How about that?

What do you mean? When he got hurt and left the game?

I dont think I felt this bad overall even during 2013. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was depressing. But I dont think I was indifferent. I think it's clearer now that there are intentional choices being made (who to start, which plays to run, what style of play) that are affecting us, whereas with 2013 there were other, more standard reasons for sucking.

After Northwestern, I knew that this team wasn't nearly the team that I and a lot of others thought it was. After the loss to UAB, I lost all optimism for the season. Yep, this year definitely feels worse than 2013. In 2013 we had a new coach and staff, plus we lost 54 Seniors to graduation. This year is our coaches 5th year with 7 home games and a tater schedule. To say this year has been disappointing would be an understatement.

No, UNT is not particularly good. They are "okay" by 2017 CUSA standards, but that is enough to be better than us this year.

We've talked at length about the importance of the QB in CFB. It's important at any level of football, of course. But, seems even more so in college ball. Anyway, have to have a good QB to win conference championships, and we definitely don't. We do have an "okay" defense. Given how little help they've gotten from the offense (to sustain drives, hold the ball, change field position), and from special teams re: field position, I'd say the defense deserves kudos. They are our only hope of becoming bowl eligible.

Boston Scott is good and should be featured more. If I were OC (and could actually run the offense...) I'd use Scott like the Saints used Darren Sproles. I guarantee after just one game, opposing defenses would focus on stopping Scott. But, they couldn't completely stop him, and then I'd use him as a decoy at times, to open up something else. And Smith would be running the ball more too. Or...I'd have another QB anyway. I would institute an actual TE too. For those of you who don't know what that stands for, TE = tight end. That's a big receiver who can get those 8-15 yard gains and move the chains. I think Kam McKnight would be a good candidate for the position. No, he's not the prototype TE, but he's big enough, and he's a good athlete that would be productive. Between Scott and McKnight, opposing DCs would have a lot to scheme against. And then....there's Teddy Veal. That's right, when opposing defenses start crowding up to cover Scott and McKnight.....BAM!!! There goes Veal on a deep post, one-on-one with no safety help. Oh, where's that safety? Oh...he's up close to the LOS to help cover Scott-McKnight.

And then, Craft...we would have variety of plays, including traps, to pop Craft straight up the gut for 15-20 yard gains. We would also play action and throw to who....oh, Craft! who snuck thru the line and is now wide open in the flat....another 15-20 yards.

Instead, Saturday, all of us will be calling the obvious play to come because Holtz is so predictable....

I agree. However, I do my part. The only thing I can control is myself. I yell as loud as I can and ring a cowbell when the other team has the ball on third down and on other critical plays!!
