No way we hold them under 35.
43-24 FAU
Game tied at 24 with 1:30 left on the clock, and we have the ball 1st and goal on the FAU 4-yard line. We have one TO remaining, and FAU has none. Holtz brings in an unknown RB, who during the preceding week was chosen as a pseudo-12th Man through a raffle at the Student Union, and decides to give him the most critical carry of the game. As expected, the 136-lb. student is stuffed behind the line. Bewildered as to how this trickeration failed, Holtz calls a timeout with 1:23 left on the clock. As he stares at his Waffle House menu of a playsheet, he catches a glimpse of #10 several feet away. Realizing that he has an automatic 3 points and staying true to his personal motto developed during his college days, "go ugly early," Holtz decides to send in the FG unit to kick on 2nd down. After all, so many bad things could happen if we actually try to score 6 on 2nd and 3rd down...
We make the FG and go up by 3 with 1:19 remaining. After a Barnes KO resulting in a touchback, FAU takes over on its 25-yard line. Having learned from previous mistakes that rushing 3 is not a recipe for success late in games, Holtz and Baker employ a new scheme sure to strike fear in the opposing offensive line and QB: we rush 1 and drop 11. After two successive completions and FAU now on our 40-yard line with :49 seconds remaining, Holtz and Baker decide to switch to plan B since our 1-man front hasn't proven successful. As FAU comes to the line for its next play, they are in utter shock as Louisiana Tech has all 11 men on the line of scrimmage. Unbeknownst to them, Holtz and Baker had read a Sports Illustrated article earlier in the week discussing the merits of Cover Zero and how it can be an extremely effective coverage scheme when applying sufficient pressure to the QB. As a result, we literally have zero men in coverage. FAU throws an easy lob to its uncovered WR, who strides into the end zone for the 40-yard score. We lose another close one at the end.
In his postgame interviews, Holtz commends the team for competing the entire 60 minutes. He then proceeds to throw several players under the bus, revises his injury number to 74, and ends by making a canned statement about how "we need to do a better job as coaches." But deep down, with all of the rhetoric aside, he still can't understand how we lost another close one.
we rush 1 and drop 11.
Sir with this simple statement you win the Internet today! The refs were probably so shocked they didn't even throw a flag.
FAU wins 42 - 6
Tech will be up by 11 points with 1:30 left in the game and lose in quadruple over time!
I think we are leading after the first quarter but end up losing the game. Final score 37-24. Less than 14k in actual attendance.
