He should leave then.
We can't start chasing position coaches with chicken feed when any of them worth a crap are trying to better their careers by moving up.
Has a coach EVER moved up from Lafayette? I don't think so. Let him go if he thinks Lafayette is his next step.
As usual, ULL is trying to make a statement within our state that THEY are the #2 university in Louisiana. They try to position themselves to appear to be the flagship of the UL System in everything they do. Trust me, hiring our DC would be viewed as a huge coup by the idiot Cajun faithful, and those ass-hats will borrow, beg, or steal if necessary in order to pull it off. This being said, I think Baker is average at best, and losing him would be no great loss. The question, I think, is whether or not we believe defending our turf against ULL's corrupt administration is worth bothering with. Look what ULL did to defend theirs when Tulane tried to lure Hudspeth away from ULL. They raised the guys salary and he promptly led their program to Shitsville.
Has the Dykes experience not taught us anything???
NEVER chase after a coach with money.
This is not who we are, and should never be who we are. PERIOD.
We are the school that young coaches can perfect their craft before they are hired by another school.
At our level, you either hire:
1. Up and coming young coaches looking to make a name for themselves.
2. Old retired coaches eeking out a living for the next few years.
We are not LSU and we are not ULoL pretending to be LSU. BTW, has anyone ever stopped and asked themselves where all this money is coming from? Buildings, Capital Improvements, 1.4 million dollar coach buyout, 3 million in associate coach salaries, 1+ million in HC salary, and everything else. They are either spending themselves broke or they are borrowing heavily and building a pile of debt.
we survive either way. Skip has treated Baker extremely well --- Loyal to the point that many see it as a fault ( not me) and last year he made the tough decision to keep Baker. ULL is not a step up-- if he moves on so be it-- I hope he appreciates what Tech has done for him - I know absolutely nothing about what is going on with staff but we will survive either way ( based on bowl game the players seem to really like him)
Baker was never gonna take a step down to coach at U-La-La. The Trailer Trash have already hired SELA's coach to be their DC.
