Meanwhile back in CUSA. Rice has announced they have hired Mike Bloomgren as their new Head Coach. Last seven years at Stanford including the last 4 as OC. Prior to that four years at the New York Jets; Delta State; Cawtaba College and three years at Alabama. 1999 graduate of Florida State.
Rice stated they hired him because of the kind of student-athletes he has had experience at recruiting at Stanford. Obviously he has been both successful at recruiting and coaching offense. Rice may never fill their stadium or even half of their stadium but their product will improve and probably do so quickly. I sometimes think that La Tech and Southern Miss have shared the same attitude of being dominant in the West Division of CUSA and the Texas teams are either doormat/commuter schools (UTSA and North Texas) or Rice (academics only) UTEP (they really should be in Mountain West) and that they will never hire good coaches. Three of those four have gotten their act together. Not impressed with the UTEP hire. And our friend to the east - UAB, let's see, oh I remember now - Bill Clark, Coach of the Year.
Are we still matching up with these teams or are we falling behind?
Morris brought 5 assistant coaches with him to a press conference yesterday in Fayetteville, including the RB coach that is the acting head coach for the Frisco bowl, the OC, and the DC. Don't sound like they've got their mind on the bowl game.
South Alabama has hired UCA coach Steve Campbell.
Oregon is keeping it in-house as Mario Cristobal will reportedly land the Ducks' full-time job
