Someone asked me the other day how many wins we have against Power 5 conference schools. I think it's between 15-20 since 1988, but I'm not certain...
Can y'all smarter Dawgs help a brother out? Thanks!

Going back to 1988, this is our record teams that were in Power Conferences at that time (this doesn't include forfeits)
http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/...aTech&limit=50
Big Ten - 3-2
Pac-12 - 1-2
SWC - 3-4
ACC - 2-6-1
SEC - 5-36
Big XII - 2-19
old Big East - 0-4
16 Wins
SBC 9-0
MAC 9-2
MWC 2-1
C-USA 34-23
WAC 52-48
Big West 7-10
current AAC 2-0
Would be a lot more losses for these P5s if they were to play away at their G5 opponent's house.
This does not include any games vs. Independent teams in late '80s and early '90sthat would be considered P5 now.
For example, our 1991 Tie with South Carolina (& a loss or 2 to SC) is not included in Above numbers.
1988 L vs. FL State
Thanks Sportdawg! I was thinking 15-20...so 16 is right on the money!
If you go back one more year - 1987 - we have one additional win. We beat Kansas in 1987 during the first of 2 transition years to I-A.
A few other wins worth mentioning.
10/23/1904 LSU 6-0
10/19/1946 @ Ole Miss 7-6
09/27/1952 @ Florida State 32-13
10/17/1953 Florida State 32-21
09/21/1968 @ Mississippi State 20-13
12/17/1977 Louisville 24-14 (Indy Bowl)
09/26/1987 @ Kansas 16-11
Winsipedia has us with 21 wins against P5 teams (not including a forfeit by Bama), though granted some of those teams were not part of their current P5 conference at the time of the win. But that's hardly our fault, and they were almost always the more established program then, too. And as many have pointed out, almost all of them were away games. Actually, four of those wins were home games--two in Ruston (58 over Florida State, 2008 over Ms State), two in Shreveport (97 over Cal, 2002 over Oklahoma State). Ironically, our win over Miami in the I Bowl was an away game.
We also have 3 ties over P5, which I consider moral victories given their situational advantages.
So, I say we have 21 skins!
1996 forfeit by TAMU is worth mentioning.
Aggies' win margin (3 TDs) was wholly attributable to their ineligible RB.
To me, it's our wins over particular programs that mean more than what conference a team is in when we beat them. Our win over LSU is a win over LSU, period. And--hey--we have a two game win streak over the best program, Alabama. Also, once upon a time, the distinction between 1-A, 1-AA, Division II, etc, didn't exist. For instance, after Tulane, the in-state team with the best record against LSU is....Centenary.
21 wins on the field against the present Power 5 schools.
LSU 1904 6-0 Ole Miss 1946 7-6 Florida State 1952 32-13 Florida State 1953 32-21 Mississippi State 1968 20-13 Louisville 1977 24-14 Kansas 1987 16-11 Kansas State 1988 31-28 Baylor 1992 10-9 Mississippi State 1996 38-23 Alabama 1997 26-20 California 1997 41-34 Alabama 1999 29-28 Oklahoma State 2002 39-36 Michigan State 2003 20-19 Mississippi State 2008 22-14 Ole Miss 2011 27-7 Illinois 2012 52-24 Virginia 2012 44-38 Illinois 2014 35-18 Miami 2019 14-0
Two other wins to consider. Houston was a member of the Southwest Conference through the 1995 season. The Southwest Conference is now largely the Big 12.
Houston 1994 32-7 Houston 1995 19-7
I only included on the field wins, no forfeits. I also didn't list ties as moral victories. Dates listed are the day the games were played.
