And a real eye-opener and warning to those Holtz apologists who defend Skippy no matter what!
Hudspeth was VERY successful at a historical losing program. FOUR straight bowl wins, and 10-win seasons, actually better than what Holtz has accomplished here. Yes, it is true Holtz has faced a tougher overall schedule, but Holtz also benefitted from being at a program that has some winning tradition. Then when he no longer had any recruits from someone else, Hud failed miserably.
Just be aware....
When that USL basketball coach cheated, back in the early 70's, he had least had a Top 20 team to show for it. Ya mean Hud cheated and he still lost? That really sucks!
True. However, Hudspeth also brought very serious NCAA sanctions and bowl forfeits under his watch as well as felony criminal activities of his players against another (former) player. His legacy is a multifaceted embarrassment for ULoL, it wasn't just about losing football games.
That's on point except the 71-72 basketball team was a Top Ten ranked team in both of the final polls, and it was their first year in the "university" level playground. They did everything with a flare, including cheating. They were playing in the NCAA basketball tournament when there were only 24 teams invited.
There is no comparison between Hud and Holtz. Holtz has outstanding character while Hud has ... well, you know.
They'll probably blame Tech. They've been on a downward spiral since we went down there and beat them in 2014. Can we pull up that old thread where they came on this board and bragged about how bad they were going to beat us?
Here's the difference -- and it's a BIG difference -- Skip Holtz was coming off three consecutive winning seasons. He's now had four consecutive non-losing seasons (pending the outcome of the bowl game). He hasn't had a losing season since his first season. Hud followed his success with three straight losing seasons. Say we lose the bowl game and finished 6-7, then follow that up with a 4-8 season next year, then we are talking about a different scenario. Yes, if Skip Holtz has three straight losing seasons he will lose any capital that he's built up over the past three seasons with good years and bowl victories, and he will deserve to be let go.

Lafayette will owe Hud $1,500,000. Also, I believe their former softball coach is suing them. I wonder what is their price tag for a new coach?
1. Coach Hud never had a 10-win season at Lafayette, much less seasons. He had four 9-4 seasons (before wins were vacated due to the cheating ULL did), but not a 10-win season.
2. Coach Hud never beat a P5 school nor a Top-25 ranked team in his seven years at Lafayette.
3. Two of UL-L's bowl wins were vacated due to the cheating. Holtz's bowl straight bowl wins at Tech came against a P5 school (Illinois), the Sun Belt Champs (Arkansas State), and #25 Navy.
