Since you asked.....Clemson. From what I saw last night, Clemson had no business being in the Top 4. Their game against Bama was never in doubt. IMO, it's the only game that was a complete waste of time yesterday.

I saw Clemson play twice this season; against Syracuse (a loss) and last night against Bama (another loss). Please color me very unimpressed with Clemson. I've seen better football played in Claiborne Parish.

Auburn also destroyed Georgia earlier in the year. Just not when it counted most. People always say its hard to beat a good team twice.

That's my point. "At Laffayette" is a real thing, but "Louisiana" is not. "Power 5" is a real thing, but "Power 6" is not. You might not like the fact that there is a Power 5, but there is.

Afraid I'm not tracking with you.

"Power 5" is a totally invented term. People started believing it was a thing because it got repeated enough. But that doesn't make it a thing.

Clemson wasn't going to be left out in any scenario. The one team that would've been left out is probably the strongest in the play-off. Thus, our system sucks.

Go to 16. 10 conference champs and 6 at large spots. I don't think they'll do that, but I do think we could be looking at 6-8 by this time next year.

It is a thing. Just ask UCF.

No way Clemson wasn't getting a spot in the playoff. They had 6 Top 25 wins, were conference champions and beat Auburn also. Not to mention there one loss was by 3 points on the road. Clearly they had the best resume heading into the playoff, which is why they were the number one seed.

Alabama had they least impressive pre-playoff resume. They only had 3 Top 25 wins, 8-1 in Power 5 games, no conference championship. Their lone loss was on the road to Auburn.

Here is Central Florida's resume. One Top 25 win, 1-0 in Power 5 games (Maryland), conference championship. Central Florida's resume was much closer to Alabama's than Clemson, but Alabama's was still better.

No school outside of the Power 5 will ever make the 4 team playoff with that resume. You must play three or more ranked teams with two or more of those being from a Power 5 conference. An undefeated season with 3 Top 25 wins with two of those being from a Power 5 conference gets you into the conversation. Otherwise a Power 5 school with one loss and 3 or more Top 25 wins gets in. Whether that is fair or not, those are the facts.

You're wasting a lot of time talking about "playoff stuff" that we already know. Clearly the 4-team model is broken, and needs to be expanded to include more teams.

Actually, I think I have been proven right. This past weekend's results say that if anyone should have been left out of the playoff, it was Clemson. They just weren't very good this year, and weren't punished enough for their mid season loss to lowly Syracuse. Clemson spent the entire year over-ranked. And it showed badly against Alabama, who was clearly the better team. The QB talent drop off was simply too significant for Clemson to overcome in 2017. And those Top 25 wins you are bragging about? Some of those teams were over-ranked too. Hence, the 4-team model just doesn't work.

As far as I'm concerned, UCF has just as much right to claim #1 as either of the remaining two teams.

I agree Power 5 is an invented term, but it is a very real thing. Athletic budgets, recruiting in football and basketball, game attendance, television ratings, national rankings and overall quality of teams on the football fields and basketball courts make it a reality. Too think or believe otherwise is to deny the truth. Whether we like it or not. For a school outside the Power 5 to break into the 4 team playoff will require 3 Top 25 wins with at least 2 of those wins to be from Power 5 conferences. Even then it is not a guarantee, but we will then be in the conversation.

    Re: College Football Playoff

I'd like to see an expanded playoff - several ways to do this but easiest is 12 teams (all conference champions plus 2 at large).

Here's how I would have set it up using this year's CFP Rankings (plus BCS Rankings for unranked champions).

All seeds are Ranked by committee - top 4 seeds get a bye. Next 4 seeds are home team for 1st round. One "G5" team will always get to play at home in 1st.

Quarterfinals can be played on Campus of Top seeds or played at "Neutral Site" bowl locations similar to Basketball tournament.

Bowl Games wouldn't know their date until December 3.

Birmingham Bowl could be Alabama vs. Troy/Ohio State Winner
Belk Bowl could be Clemson vs. Boise/UCF winner
Heart of Dallas could be Oklahoma vs. Toledo/USC winner
TaxSlayer Bowl (Jacksonville, FL) could be Georgia vs. FAU/Wisconsin winner.

Remaining Bowls would be slotted using a committee of Conference reps, TV reps, & Bowl Reps.

I definitely like the idea of using existing bowls in an expanded playoff.

How would the NCAA justify teams potentially playing two more games where?
