Similar, true. But the HUGE difference is in basketball EVERY school has a shot at winning the national championship. East Bofunk State of the Across Central America Conference can win its conference automatic bid, get in the Big Dance, and win the NC....if they can win 6 straight playoff games (or 7 if you're one of the play-ins). The P5s, and some G5s (using the FB designation), get an extra chance i.e. are likely to get an at-large berth if they fail to win their conference auto-bid. But other than that anomaly, all 300+ Division I schools playing hoops have the "same" chance.
That is not true in Division I FBS football.
I was just pointing out that the NCAA basketball tournament is an "invitational". After the automatic bids how many podunk u's get invited? Generally most of the at large bids go to the football P5s. If it were a true basketball championship only (and all) the conference champions would be included. They still load it for the P5 type schools by giving them the bulk of the at large bids.
IF the playoffs are expanded and IF they don't make an accommodation for the G5 I expect there will be lawsuits.
Guys, you've got to read this article on UCF celebrating winning a national football championship, and then watch the accompanying Paul Finebaum video. LOL! Finebaum is actually concerned that UCF is disrespecting and de-legitimizing the College Football Playoff (CFP).

As far as I'm concerned, UCF has every right to call itself "National Champions". In fact, UCF beat the team (Auburn) in a bowl game, that was the only team to beat both Georgia and Alabama this year. And of course UCF finished the season undefeated, a feat that neither Georgia or Alabama accomplished.
