    Re: College Football Playoff

There have been some interesting discussions on G5s and the CFP.

I like Danny Kannell's suggestion that G5 schools play at least 3 P5 teams to be considered for CFP. The context of the conversation was expanding to 8 team CFP and should undefeated G5 teams get an automatic bid. The folks on the show had agreed a P5 conference championship should get an automatic bid. Someone said what if Appalachian State won the first Sun Belt championship game and went undefeated next year. Danny said there should be conditions on G5 because strength of schedule isn't the same and UCF is no Boise State or TCU (from back in the day.) I have to agree. The last thing we need is some G5s coming up with schedules that barely qualify for bowl eligibility then saying they belong in CFP because they were undefeated.

Looniest comment: A caller to SiriusXM's "The First Team" said if men's basketball were handled like CFP then there would never be teams like Butler, Gonzaga, etc. That set off the hosts (Greg McElroy and Taylor Zarzour) who told the caller he was wrong because the difference is some schools choose to recruit athletes with the intent of going deep into playoffs. WOW!!! It's hard to believe someone would actually believe any school, regardless of the sport, would choose to NOT recruit athletes that can win national championships. Ya gotta luv the implication some coach is going to say/think "Hmm, the 3-year starting QB for an undefeated 5-A state champion lists us as his #1 preferred schools on Rivals. That's nice but we're not going waste our time recruiting because he's a national championship-caliber player. Oh, look! Here we go! The father of a 3rd string QB on a 4-7 H.S. team tweeted to @ESPN he wished some school would give his boy a chance."

Go back and look at some of Boise's schedules from "back in the day". Danny often has no idea what he's talking about, this subject included.

I like that CF is claiming a national championship. I like that its pissing some people off. Just like the NFL and their power-mad schemes to have things their way no matter how unfair it may be to anyone else, I'd like to see the P5 monopoly on game scheduling, money... everything fractured. All conferences, all teams deserve a shot no matter how slight their chances might be to win it all. Some people have pointed out the underdog overachieving accomplishments of some teams but don't forget what Fresno State and Coastal Carolina did in baseball when they overcame that fixed system to achieve the impossible.

Uh, that ain't gonna happen. The Cartel will ensure the better G5's can't schedule 3 games from the Cartel, thus few, if any, qualifiers. Even if they do schedule 3, odds are none of them will be at the G5's home stadium. Danny Kannell is a hack.

I love how they (UCF) are having some festivities the same day as the CFP. Looks like the College Football SubReddit is awarding them a national champion trophy.

You have to admit both those Freshmen QB's looked pretty confident in the game last night!
Makes me wonder about our QB situation!

There is no "wonder." We need a QB!

And, can you imagine how our sunshine pumpers would react to yanking a QB who is 25-2 as a starter? OMG! Of course that is why Saban is a 6-time national champion, one of the greatest coaches of all time, and Holtz and our pumpers revel at 9-win seasons.

This is the biggest part of Alabama's win last night. I don't think the sunshine pumpers would be upset if the outcome were the same as Alabama's, However, Holtz would NEVER have pulled JMar or any starting QB in a critical game such as last night.

Saban said he would’ve pulled Tua right before the throw, but he couldn’t get to him fast enough!

I have a hard time imagining a QB who is 25-2! Wonder if he might be available after spring ball?

Seriously though instant classic last night. Saban earned every dime they pay with that call. Of course, it makes it a little easier to make that call knowing the guy you are about to put in was the # 1 dual threat QB from the year before. Gutsy call nonetheless.

I think that is a terrible idea. As others have pointed out. Out of those three games probably none would be at the G5 teams stadium. If a P5 team is unhappy that their SOS is so much higher than a G5, there are plenty of G5s (all of them) that would trade conferences with them so they could have a nice easy path to the playoffs.

I might be willing to say that they should be required to play 1 P5 to qualify for the playoffs, but 3 is ridiculous. Just expand the playoffs. If an unworthy G5 gets in, its just another easy game for the top sead to make their path to the championship easier.

Jalen Hurts is a joke. He's no QB. If Saban had not made the move, UGA would be celebrating a NC today. I would also think Tua is the #1 QB....it's his job to lose....heading into 2018.

Jake Fromm is also legit good. Reminds me of Drew Brees. He'll only get better, so expect to see UGA vying for another NC soon.

Gotta have a QB if you hope to be champion...along with a great defense, of course.

Scary how many freshman had key contributions last night. Bama and UGA will be hard to stop for at least a few years.
