    NO!

Sure, beating lspoo, anytime, has its positive impact and really, just the satisfaction of beating dem azzholes would be great!

BUT! No way, I mean NO WAY, do I measure the success of a Tech season, in any sport, by how we fare vs. the poosters! They are NOT that important. They are a very good athletics' school, with all the benefits of being a large land grant university, and of course, all the perks from the revenue of being in the richest conference in the nation. But except for the in-state interest, they are no different than the other upper half of the SEC in football (in this case). Beating lspoo holds more merit than beating Vandy or Kentucky, for instance, in football. But not as much as beating Bama, Auburn, UGA, and on par with aTm, Tenn, etc...would be.

They are just another road game vs. a usually good SEC school. Heck, South Carolina actually won their bowl game and had just as successful a season as lspoo did. We should have beaten SC, as we all know. Please don't act like the rest of the tigger-wannabees in this state. We are LOUISIANA TECH!

Good golly,8 months away and ya''ll discussing this? Funny!
Being a 65 year old LIFETIME RESIDENT of this banana republic state I call home, and, having grown up in BR, nothing would make me smile more than to win that came. THEY---the evil empire and ALL involved--know the implications well, and Troy likely did us no favor to win that overlooked game...which they WILL NOT do with us...you have to keep the "lesser schools" where they belong, and they will likely do so...in my book, at least competing for a conference championship(which likely would be FAU) and having a decent record altogether would be nice....I am anxious to see IF OUR PICK UPS at linebacker are for real...I am still a believer in defense wins championships...I may have stated this several months ago..but we had a 70's reunion of my ole 'fratty clubbers" at a casino in LC in September.(of course, they planned it on a LSU away game weekend)..out of 60 guys that returned, less than 5 guys were anything but die hard Tiger fans...sickening...some had not been back in 45 years...and these dudes loved the whole frat thing, the school?...well, it was a school, a place where they got a degree--translation---they loved the whole frat relationship but in no way identified with being a Tech supporter, and some of these dudes(many) have been quite successful and haven't given Tech a dime ever.....this is what we are fighting, especially during 25 years of a real overall weak leader at Tech...only within the last 10 years, or recent history, have I seen some real change..in football as well as support from young alumni anyway.. athletically, have to be consistent..bottom line is everybody would love to beat LSU, and that likely would mean we'd be pretty good and translate into a decent overall record...shoot, who knows...only reason I comment is some younger folks on here may find some of this enlightening...maybe not...

Thanks dawg80. Beating LSU should not be our Holy Grail. It's just another SEC money game. They are not our rival and they certainly don't consider us their rival. The sports casters want to play up the fact that our players played against theirs in high school, but with us recruiting heavily outside Louisiana this isn't that big of a factor. I had just as soon not play them but rather beat teams that regularly beat them such as Alabama. If that happens (like in the 1990s) then they will not want to play us. If we start getting more of the top Louisiana recruits like Amik, then they might want to put a beat down on us.

The question posed is not whether you'd rather beat LSU and suck. It's a scenario where we beat LSU and lose in the in the CUSA championship game with a finishing record of 10-3 and go to a bowl game (against an average P5 like Texas Tech or Arkansas). OR, we lose to LSU, win the CUSA championship game with a finishing record of 12-1 and go to the Peach Bowl (comparable to UCF) and play a Clemson or Fla State.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

I do not remember what our record was when we beat Alabama 2 years in a row. Do not remember if we were in a bowl either year but I still talk about beating Alabama 2 years in a row . In my mind I would be talking about winning a game against LSU forever -- anyone remember ( without looking it up) what our record was when we beat Bama? does anyone care ? I want a conference championship and 10-11 win season so this thread reminds me of the movie Sophias Choice --

Re: What would have greater implications for LaTech next year?

We did not go to bowl either year that we beat Alabama. The last year (1999) we were number 25 and then lost to Southern Cal. I remember the announcers saying we probably would not go to a bowl even if we beat Southern Cal. I believe we had already lost to A&M before we beat Alabama. There just weren't that many bowl games back then and we were not in a conference.

I would love to beat lsu! It would be huge in shutting the people up that go to TECH and pull for lsu because "it isn't the same thing", that I hear all the time. If we beat them, we should be good enough to have a great season, and I am all for that. I can't say which scenario I would rather, because both of them would be a great year. I just want to win next year, and not "compete".

We were good both years, 1997 and 1999. From memory we were 9-2 in '97 and then 8-3 in '99 with losses to #1 Florida State, Texas A&M, and Southern Cal. We beat SEC Champion Bama. 1998 was a 6-6 year, when we lost to Top 10 Tulane to close out the year. No bowls any of the years, but the strangest thing was we probably came closer to a bowl bid in 1998 (were being considered) if we beat Tulane and finished 7-5. We didn't, so a moot point. And, I'm not sure where we were on that bowl's list....which was some western bowl. Maybe the Vegas Bowl if it were around then, or some similar bowl.

In '98 we lost to Tulane, a 9-2 UCF, aTm, Auburn, Wyoming, and....West Virginia, I think. When you look at who we used to play OOC, it's amazing to me that our Sunshine Pumpers give Holtz a pass for non-conference schedules like: NSU, South Alabama, Moo State, and SC. Not that both SEC opponents this year were not good, they were! But it's hardly the grind like we used to endure.

Anyway, back to the topic, as I said, except for the inescapable in-state stuff, LSU is just another good SEC team we have to face on the road, with their refs, etc.... Don't elevate it past that.

Screw it beat LSU. You guys gotta be tired of them being the undisputed #1 in the state.

We haven’t beaten them since the early 1900s!!!! Football wasn’t even today’s game back then. Not even close

I'm not sure what you mean by "major bowl game (not playoff). The NCAA classifies all FBS bowls as major bowl games.

Are you talking about one the non-playoff NY6 bowls? If that's the case, we are talking either Fiesta or Peach next season, and we'd need a lot of help to be the G5 rep with a loss to LSU on our resume. The last 3 years that resume would not get us in.

As for me, I'd take either option right now. Where do I sign up?

Me too. A win over LA State in B.R. would give LA Tech street cred in the state of Louisiana that no other state school has ever been able to achieve. Beating STATE would finally prove to many people that the product in Ruston is just as good as the product in Baton Rouge. Why drive all the way to BR, pay all that money for tickets, etc..and fight all that traffic, just to watch a football team that can't even beat a north Louisiana team located 60 miles or less away in Ruston?

Yep, a win over LA STATE would truly impact LA Tech's football program and reputation perhaps like no other win could, including a big bowl win.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. LOL! Nice try, but that's total hogwash. Nothing could be further from the truth. LA State University OWNS the state of Louisiana, perhaps more so than any single school/state in the nation, save for Arkansas and perhaps Missouri. It's certainly true in the deep south.

Don't take your eye off the prize. You can't come this far without knowing what's really important and what's just window dressing. And absolutely nothing would have more of a positive impact on LA Tech's future than beating Louisiana State in front of 100K Louisianians, and another 4 million watching on TV.
