Given both Nunes’ history on this particular issue and the actual content of the memo, it is pretty obvious to anyone with a critical eye that this was a deliberate attempt to mislead and manipulate. The clearest evidence comes from how he qualified the statements in the memo to carve around the omitted facts, particularly around what the court actually new about the background of the Steele dossier. And Nunes later admitted as much on that point.

And a Yahoo News article about the same, as if it was new or real news, was the kick off point. Ridiculous on the lame stream media, Dems and FBI's part! This fact has already been provided/linked on this thread.

Actually, the Yahoo News article had nothing to do with it.

It seems clear in this discussion as well as most others that everyone sees what they want to. I have read the memo and would certainly agree it is not without bias, but I don't see him carving around omitted facts. I would be curious to see that highlighted for effect. Seems the media would be well served by pointing these things out since they go to the trouble of only referring to it as the "disputed memo".

I didn’t put an exclamation mark on my “boom” cause Nunes has already been proven to be a wolf cryer.

    Re: Release The Memo!

The Schiff Memo does nothing to dispel what was said in the Nunes Memo. I think it tries too much to answer the surrounding rhetoric that came from it and misses the mark a lot without really contradicting anything.

Schiff concentrates on the investigation, while Nunes concentrated on the FISA applications and warrants. The main argument from Schiff is that the investigation was already happening before the Steele dossier and would have continued to happen without it. Nunes never said the dossier caused the investigation. Nunes did say it was a part of the initial FISA application and subsequent renewals despite being discredited. Schiff agrees. So I guess it's a question of scalability, meaning how big a part the dossier was in establishing probable cause that they disagree on.

Schiff's says that the FISA warrants were not used to spy on Trump or the campaign. That issue was not addressed by Nunes.

Schiff tries to say the DOJ accurately stated who was behind the report. The text he uses to support it shows that not to be true.

Nunes says Yahoo was used but is unreliable since it doesn't corroborate the dossier "because it is derived from information leaked by Steele..." Schiff states the article was used a means to show Page was lying. Maybe contradiction isn't the right term for this one as it seems it's two explanations and both could be correct in parts. Not sure we can know right now.

Nunes says Ohr had a relationship with Steele even after Steele was "terminated as a source," and that Ohr's revelation of Steele's motivations and that Ohr's wife's connection to Fusion GPS should have been revealed as he presented their research as evidence. Schiff just says Ohr is a good guy, couldn't possible be involved with a conspiracy, has nothing to do with any of the FISA applications, and Nunes did him wrong. Schiff does nothing to change the facts of Nunes, just tries to obfuscate.

Nunes stated what Strzok/Page did while conducting an investigation triggered by information revealed in a FISA application on Papadopoulos. The mention was seems meant as a means to discredit that investigation due to extreme bias. Schiff's point is that the text messages are "irrelevant to the FISA application" and doesn't show bias. Until I see the workpapers or an actual report with supporting documentation, the text messages are the only thing we have here and they do show a bias that could have influenced the investigation.

Overall, I think both are telling a story, but not the story.

Overall, why did they use the fake dossier if they didn't need it? They lied. Obama, his AGs, Hillary, and all the democratic members of the FBI and CIA.

Why leave out any evidence you have when showing probable cause?

Bottom line, judge was told that Steele was hired to discredit Trump campaign. Nunes wanted you to believe the judge didn’t know about his political motivations and bias. Nunes’s statements were designed to mislead Trump’s sheeple and create outrage in conservative circles. Steele dossier was never all that there was behind the surveillance of Carter Page. The fact that a judge would grant the surveillance warrant when the political motivations behind the Steele dossier were known is all you need to know that is true.

We would have even more to illustrate what a farce the whole Nunes memo was if Trump wouldn’t have gotten cold feet on how important “transparency” is, but - alas - this memo was still enough to show that Nunes is nothing more than a partisan hack doing Trump’s bidding in matters he was supposed to be recused from. Which is really the whole point of recusal.

But ethics 101 has gone to compete shit since Trump started laying his turds in Washington.

You've finally admitted the democrat lies, but cover it up with more of their lies. The judge was lied to by everybody including your FBI hero Comey. He is going to jail.

Could the FISA judge be in on it all too? Maybe he could see or knew the extent of the political bias of the dossier as well as who paid for it, but it was very lucrative for him to grant the warrant anyway.

Initially, because it was from a trusted source and it reinforced prior findings. Once it became clear the dossier had some problems, I have no clue.

Redacted. We don’t know entirely what parts of the dossier were cited and for what.

But the fact that renewals were granted by other judges tends to show that they were getting into that justified the continuation of the surveillance warrant.
