Yep. The error gave them a run instead of ending the inning. The pickoff would have scored. The pitching was excellent for Tech. Miller didn't need much support for this to have been a 'W'.

Miller was outstanding, but so was Carpenter. He should have never been put back out there for the 11th. He had done his job, but he ends up getting the loss.

I know you don't like Burroughs PD but it's kind of hard to argue he waited too late when he was near perfect through 3 innnings and he pulled him after he put one guy on base in 11th. Truth is the next reliever did not pitch well and was hit hard.

I don't dislike him, but just like Holtz I won't rubber stamp stuff just because he does it. You don't leave a RELIEVER in just because is doing well. There is a reason they are a RELIEVER and not a starter. He walked the winning run. Through three innings, which is one more than he is expected to throw, he had done his job. Our coached showed consistently bad judgement with pitching moves last year. He did it again last night.

Game 3: Pepperdine gets on the board first with a squeeze bunt. 0-1 Waves after 2 innings.

Headed to bottom 8th, we are still being shut out 0-1. This LHP reliever Logan is looking really good on the mound for Tech.

Top of the 9th- WE NEED SOME HITTERS!
    Fly out to CF.
Base hit. We have a base runner!!
    Fly out to RF.
    Ground out to 1st.
    Pepperdine completes the 1-0 shutout.

Small crowd. Less than 200 but quite a few Tech fans here. I would guess close to 50/50.

As for game 2 of DH, not much offense to speak of. Tech led off game with back to back hits but failed to score. Didn’t get another hit until 7th inning. Pepperdine’s lone run scored came on a 2 out drag bunt, so technically not a squeeze. Huddleston fielded hard rolling ball about 6 inches inside chalk while on the run, about half way to the plate, but he had no play and made no throw. He probably should've let it roll in hopes of ball rolling foul. That said, he made some nice plays and is a solid 3B.
Overall, pretty clean games, just lacking timely hits.

Baseball Baseball. Pitching Dominates as Tech Splits Saturday Doubleheader

A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:

The Louisiana Tech baseball team snagged a 3-2 victory over Pepperdine in the first leg of Saturday's doubleheader, and dropped the second decision to the Waves, by a 1-0 final from Eddy D. Field Stadium on the Pepperdine campus.

I think we will have more quality arms to work with this year. It had to be difficult last year to give the ball to anyone other than 2-3 guys including the starters.

    Re: Opening Weekend Rotation

We've only scored 3 earned runs (4 runs total) in 29 innings played. That lack of production is not gonna get it done even with stellar pitching.

In 29 innings, we've hit only
    - 17 singles
    - 3 doubles
    - 0 triples
    - 0 home runs

Amazingly, our pitchers have done even better only giving up 14 singles, 2 doubles, 0 triples, and 0 home runs. Props to our pitching staff.
