In other words, the risk ratio of mass shooting violence is much higher for our former military being armed civilians compared to the norm.

Veterans account for 13 percent of the population, but more than a third of the adult perpetrators of the 43 deadliest mass killings since 1984.

That is your “stat of the day” to chew on.

Early reports indicate that this one could be a PTSD issue, which, if so, makes it also part of a larger problem we have with mental health treatment (and firearm access), particularly pertaining to our failings to support our returning service men and women suffering from PTSD.
I actually agree on this part. Our veterans are not getting the type of healthcare and treatment that they deserve. But how would you prevent an active member of the military getting a firearm prior to a deployment where they could encounter PTSD? Once back what to do with the guns?

There has been proposals that would allow a family member or physician to institute a simple judicial proceeding to temporarily block a person’s access to guns while their mental fitness could be evaluated.

Ya know what, I could go for this.

I say we need to go for this at the border as well. Block access to the country until fitness can be determined.

I think both of these things conform to the original intent of the framers and any amendments to the original document. I don't think the constitution was written with the intent of making sure folks likely to commit mass murder had the tools to get it done, nor are any articles in there meant to entice millions of people to come here (some may be very dangerous) for the spoils of the taxpayer funded welfare system.

    Progressivism is killing America.

On paper that looks good. But in practice would be quite another matter. Can you imagine approaching a mentally "unfit" person, a family member, perhaps your husband, from a woman's POV, or a sibling, or a son, or the female counterparts to all of these, and saying "Listen, honey, the judge signed this document so I need you to give me all of your guns." Are we to expect this mentally "unfit" person to respond, "Yeah, okay. Here ya go...all of my guns."

I don't know, so I am asking...do mentally "unfit" people understand, have a clue! they are suffering from some mental illness? Are they self-aware? Some might recognize they are depressed, not happy, think the world sucks, but do they assign that to themselves or to something else...some demon out there? Meaning, when approached about turning over their guns, they might go ballistic.

Or, is this plan designed to "take away" the guns without the mentally "unfit" person's knowledge or cooperation? Say, Yo! bro...let's you and I take in ballgame today", and while the mentally "unfit" person is away, someone grabs all the guns that can be located and locks them up or sends them away somewhere. Upon his/her return finds the guns "taken" and doesn't like it! Are you absolutely sure you located ALL of the guns? Maybe the mentally "unfit" person has several stashed away, and now thoroughly pissed off his/her guns have been "stolen" retrieves one of those hidden guns, you didn't know about, and then....

    Good plan though....

Not with guns, but have seen someone voluntarily give up keys to a motorcycle when suffering from severe depression. Confronted and responded amicably. Pretty sure that’s not typical, especially with someone suffering more than depression.

UNCC and STEM. A lot that can be learned. “Run, hide, fight” is good advice, but when “fight” is chosen, these incidents seem to end much quicker.

The conventional wisdom is "Run, hide, fight." Every "active shooter" training I've attended highlights those three in that order. The worst thing anyone can do is become a passive target. The shooters in these situations are cowards. That's why they select the venues they do. Schools, with big signs saying firearms are not allowed. Gee... to think these murderers aren't afraid of getting in trouble for breaking that law.

Take cover, pull your concealed weapon, position yourself for a clean shot when the perpetrator enters your field of fire, kill the bastard.

You forget sir, you are in a gun free zone. Only law abiding citizens follow this instruction. You are done for.

Nope the date was wrong. And even so, it should have been booted out by now.
