Dude, until some of the CUSA AD's finally grow a pair and push Judy out of the commissioners box, CUSA will continue to get pushed around by TV network executives, et, al.

I guess the good news is, I won't have to get my expensive cable package again.

All of our TV deals expire this year except for beIN Sports, which has 1 more year on the contract.

Also keep in mind that is a tweet from someone named "Red Dirt Sport" who started it off by saying "so for all 10 of yall who care."

The market is what it is right now. I think all the other conferences have been locked into their TV contracts through at least 2020, and that's why C-USA seems to be the only conference to take a public beating. C-USA said "no thanks" to Fox who wanted us to play a bunch of weekday games (like MAC and Belch) and Saturday morning games. ESPN is pretty much full. CBS Sports has been trying to diversify their portfolio to include more fan bases from other conferences to demand their network. NBC/NBCSN seems content with their Notre Dame and Ivy/CAA/A-10 inventory. So we got left with ASN/CI/Stadium/beIN experiments, and honestly I think they've been really good for us. Mix in a few on ESPN3. Then CUSA.tv. It's really not bad. We all have access if we want to watch. The conference just needs to help its members work on improving in-house productions and to hold each school accountable to certain standards.

Re: New TV Rights Thread (2018)

ESPN way over bought the market a few years ago right before streaming became a big deal. Not just sports streaming but all kinds of entertainment streaming. ESPN has clearly suffered financially. Sure looks like that period is going to be a high water mark for collegiate broadcast rights for years to come. Especially for the non-P5 conferences. I doubt it will get much better for us until someone comes up with a new idea on how to monetize collegiate athletics programming.

I agree that given what's happened, what we've had this round has been ok. But we sure could use a better deal.

I wonder if it makes sense for CUSA to do a short-term deal this time to get us on the same renewal cycle as our peer conferences to facilitate an alliance? It might be a way to get everyone a better media deal.

We don't be seeing much money from our broadcasts in the foreseeable future, if ever. That cycle is over.

Re: New TV Rights Thread (2018)

All I want is access to games on my TV. I have a ROKU TV so that is paramount!

Stadium has a good app (except Facebook games, where I have to use my Chromecast)
Watch ESPN is good app (slow sometimes, but reliable)
    Fox Sports Go is decent
    NBC has a good app

CBS Sports - I don't think they show many live games, but I have it on Playstation Vue, so we're good.
BeIn - has an app, but you need to subscribe. Not available on Playstation Vue. Available on others with Free Trial.

CUSA.tv - NO APP on ROKU tv. I have a workaround, but I'm dedicated. The casual fan isn't going us Roku Cast to watch a game.

If we're not going to get much $, I'd like to have non-TV games on Watch ESPN or Stadium (similar to WCC & MWC).

Sticky: How to watch CUSA.TV on your TV

    Started by sportdawg‎, 09-04-2016 03:01 PM
Roku and Chromecast have similar instructions.

    1. Download Video & TV Cast for your device: When you click on the link for each device, you will have the option to download via App Store or Google Play. That link takes you to a "Pro" version that cost $$$. The FREE versions are available below.

    2. Once you have it set up on your phone & device (if necessary), open the app and use the browser to go to BB&B and the schedule thread. Then click on the link for the appropriate game and follow the instructions on your phone. I've tried this with Roku & Chromecast from my iPhone and it works like a charm.

    Louisiana Tech @ UAB

My suggestion is to try the apps to get used to it BEFORE the start of the game. Try watching something FREE on C-USA TV before purchasing the game.

Between cable TV and Apple TV, I've been able to watch every Tech football, basketball, and baseball game this season on the big screen except for the New Orleans Shootout and UAB's production glitch. Maybe UTEP had a production glitch, too. Can't remember.

It's truly never been easier to follow Tech sports. You can DVR any Tech game on TV, and the online streams are archived so you can watch any game later that you miss.

Today I saw that DirecTV added CBSSN to their streaming stations.

With Apple TV, I can stream every Stadium, CUSA.tv, or Facebook Live broadcast on my big TV via AirPlay from Safari, Conference USA app, or facebook app on my MacBook, iPad, or iPhone and sync them with Tech's audio stream via the TuneIn app when necessary.

The MWC plays past their bedtimes to get on TV, and they aren't happy about it. The MAC and Belch play their football games on Tuesday and Wednesday to get on ESPN2 or ESPNU (kills attendance, and they aren't happy), and they rarely have any basketball games on TV. The AAC is still on the old BIG EAST TV contract. All those things considered, C-USA's TV deal isn't all that bad despite the popular narrative.

For the most part, C-USA retained control of our own game dates and start times, and all of our games are available to watch one way or another.

Hmmm. I can't find any details on what that Sun Belt deal is worth.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

Multi-millions in publicity and advertising, thousands of new students, increases in endowment, and just a good feeling.
