When did Tech baseball games get this crazy?

Living over here in Mississippi, I was unaware how awesome Tech home baseball games had apparently become, that is until this popped up on instagram today. Rampant cursing and merciless heckling of opponents, public urination, and drunks playing chicken with speeding trains. Sounds like I’ve been missing one hell of a party. Too bad it looks like the good ‘ol Tech police are going to stamp out all the fun before I have a chance to come experience this in person. I guess maybe I’ll have to go visit my dad up in Oxford and enjoy a nice beer shower up there.

How about charge a couple bucks for outfield seating (more funds for Tech), put a couple porta-potties out there and have a security guard around just to make sure things don’t get to crazy. As far as the drinking issue, just have a rule that as long as you’re not acting stupid, you will be left alone. This is an easy thing to work out.

Not all of it. The RR has always been very friendly about us using their portion.

This has been thorny for some time now. Most of that area is railroad right of way which, save all the legalize, must be kept clear and free from structures, etc. As I understand the railroad is just keeping an arms length distance, not saying we can or cannot use the space. Giving permission would obligate them legally and make them liable if the train did run over someone or other injuries occured. We are including the standers out there in attendance but unable to charge since it isnt our property and no way to control entry and exit. The best solution is to erect a fence parallel to the right of way and then haul in fill dirt between that fence and our outfield fence. Build it high enough, actually level to top of outfield fence, and then we would have a perfect place to add seats, porta potties, and even allow a few vehicles for tail gating like we see at some schools. Fill it in, build a fence around it, and then allow entry upon purchase of a ticket. We could sell more tickets out there than at the Love seating area.

90% of those people are either students or fans who are pissed about the cost of tickets. Good idea to spend money out there, then charge them to occupy. Are you TMac or his boy Marco?

Yeah I dont think charging people to sit there is the solution.

All the dirt dug out in order to build the SEZ could have been hauled & dumped behind the fence at no cost, would have fit nicely. Missed a good opportunity to get a good thing going.

Do you understand the costs associated with engineering a wall strong enough to hold that amount of dirt?

Just give them some port o potties on the side walk

The spots were sold out last year, I assume they were again this year even though the price went up. Check with the ticket office for one game specials.

I am no engineer but the only pressure on that wall would be from the side, no weight atop, and the cost of a 150' long and 6' high structure would be minimal compared to its long time benefits. We need to sell tickets and the only way is to enclose the area. If we intend to maintain and improve a very fine program then them that want to watch will need to pay.

    No it's not minimal -

There are some engineers on here that can weigh in

This would be no different than a load bearing retaining wall that I'm used to dealing with on road right-of-ways

If you want to ADD structure for permanent seating and return on dollars is on land that we presently own above the left field fence all the wall to the hitting screen in center field (cheapest and they would not block view from the apartments) - second area I would look at is permanent bleachers down the right field line which can be engineered more cost effectively without involving the RR -

I promise you, involving the railroad would be a huge pain in the neck. Just getting them to fix crossings or add traffic signals & gates is "cumbersome" to say the least.
