Loyola-Chicago headed to the Final Four

What is their athletic budget? Must be right up there with the large land grant schools, because we all know without a HUGE budget, players can't play smart basketball, and make free throws and goofy stuff like that. That's always been the excuse of some...

you can't expect us to have a good team, in any sport, have you seen our lousy budget!?

So, what's Loyola-Chicago's budget? Just curious.

In 2012-13, Loyola’s last year in the Horizon League, the Athletic Department spent $2,364,370 on its men’s basketball team alone, according to Forbes. That figure is more than half of the estimated $4.3 million spent on men’s sports, and almost a fifth of the department’s $12,508,656 in expenses.

Don't worry guys, attendance is up 17% from last year. By this rate we'll beat Tech's 75,000 home attendance record by the end of next season!

Then we'll be able to compete with powerhouse programs like Loyola. Might even be able to advance to the second round in a 4th-rate pay-for-play! Exciting times.

Exactly why no sub-categorization of "major" is valid.

Looks like Loyola's 2016-2017 basketball spending was in the $2.7 million range, about $300,000 more than Tech's.

I find it funny that the MVC actually got better after Wichita State bolted for "greener" pastures. Per KenPom, the MVC jumped the A-10 and upped their strength from +2.08 to +4.02 by losing the Shockers. The MVC also earned the same amount of NCAA units as the AAC and has 2 fewer schools to split them with. And Wichita State got eliminated in the first round by a C-USA team. I think both parties will eventually regret the WSU move to the AAC. That move was a short term reach for relevancy that is doomed long term.

The Talking Heads are going nuts! A "mid-major" to the Final Four. Gee, joining Butler, VCU, George Mason, Wichita State in recent years. Did I miss one? What about Gonzaga? Anyway, the elitist feel the necessity to explain away this travesty. Such as, well, L-C got lucky because the heavy hitters in that region were knocked out. Oh? Like UVA being knocked out by another "mid-major" UMBC.

If there are "mid-majors" then that implies there are "low-majors." Who are they?

And this from a Football Blog I am on. They are discussing schedules, like Bama doesn't play a tough OOC slate, but they are upgrading it. There was a discussion that Bama and Notre Dame have signed a home-home agreement. So, one of those arrogant azzholes remarks, well, Notre Dame is not very good anymore, they are more like a "mid-major." Another poster chimes in, look, I don't like ND either, but there's no need to be insulting by referring to them as a "mid-major."

So, being a "mid-major" is something to be insulted about. Hmm...

So watch and don't listen? They ALL use it. Even our own coaches and AD.

A lot of times, our tv is on mute anyway. With a 9 and 6 year old demanding my attention, I have to either tune out the tv or mute it.

I love a good underdog too. Great run by a quality team.
