We need an AD who is well-connected within the NCAA "community," including to schools in P5 conferences, and those in the AAC and MVC. Someone who is highly respected and liked, who can pick up the phone to any other AD and say, hey, our football team has an open date on the 3rd Saturday of September in 2020, and again in 2021. Let's do a home and home. Who knows big time "investors" willing to make deals for sponsorships and make donations.
Yeah, I know, some of you are saying, Oh! is that all? Those guys can be found in the yellow pages a dime a dozen. No, but we have to make an effort to get us one. He might be presently an asst. AD somewhere looking for a chance to make a name for himself and who would use Tech as a stepping stone to that big time job he really wants. But, in the meantime, 2 or 3 years here, could do wonders for us. Put us on the map.
We don't need any Southland Conference small-timeness if we ever hope to break the binds of mediocrity.
BTB told me.
Are you insinuating that these types of people aren't out there or wouldn't be interested in Tech if an opening were available?

To follow up on the last post: The next time we have an opening for an AD we're not going to be able to hire the type of person that D80 speaks about without pouring more resources into athletic administration.
Highly qualified candidates would be interested but aren't going to take the job without a strategic plan in place for that area. We've asked our last 3 AD's over the past 24 years to be micro managers. That can't continue.
dawg80 our AD is very well connected within the NCAA "community". It is like a fraternity, they have a coaches convention every year just like the coaches. They are ALL well connected, that is the name of the game in college athletics.
The last time we hired one of those associates from a Power 5 school, that did not work out well on any level. Maybe he was just a bad apple but BVD didn't do squat for any of the areas you are talking about. His lone good decision was to hire Mike White as a favor to Kevin White, which he probably just lucked into.
He gets slapped around by his "peers ". Look at the schedules he puts together. BVDV was 4X the AD
