Griffen & Follis Need More Pitches

Last year we FINALLY moved Nate Harris to starting pitcher instead of only using him for 1 inning per weekend. He responded by winning 90% of his games for us!

We have two pitchers in a similar situation this year. After 28 games, Kyle Griffen and Tyler Follis have the best two ERAs on our team at 0.00 and 0.70, opposing batters are averaging only .173 and .122, their combined W-L record is 5-1, and they've struck out 41 of the 142 batters they've collectively faced. No other pitcher on the team has numbers like these guys.

We've got to stop "saving" our best arms while other pitchers are getting knocked around over multiple innings. Come on coach, bring these guys out and allow them to prove how long they can go (or not go) like you did with "Nasty Nate"- saving them for only 1 inning of work is arguably costing us Ws.

I'm confused....He just threw Griffen 6.2 innings in a win over UAB Sunday, he just threw Follis 2.1 innings in a win over McNeese. He isn't going to put his best relievers in a game like last night when he's down 6-1....Smith was 4/4 in save opportunities until last night.

This team is one arm and one killer hitter away from being very, very good.

I'd like to see how we do when running bases like an average high school team.

Idk, I might have let Sullivan come back to pitch the final inning and solidify what would have been his win. He was doing well, kept them scoreless. Why not? I know its not necessarily his role to close it out at that point. Sometimes bringing in a new guy just isnt always correct. They sometimes take a moment to settle down and with only a one point lead and them being good at hitting the ball, I dont know if changing was right.

We kept Matt in too long last night when it was obvious that his arm/accuracy was not there - could have taken him out at the 2nd HR that they hit.

His fast ball must have looked like a softball coming across the plate. They KILLED it. They did struggle with his off speed pitches, but SOMEBODY kept calling for fast balls.

Yes he did. In 3 innings Follis actually LOWERED his season ERA from 0.70 to 0.63. His pitching could be huge for us come tourney time.

I would think we could add Leal to the bullpen for the tourney, also

Re: Griffen & Follis Need More Pitches

I still think Ben Stiglets and Quinten Logan are going to be dependable arms for us this year also. It has been hard to find time for everyone when your starters are throwing 6-7 innings every game and the relievers you bring in are on fire. Tough to pull Follis and Griffen when they are dominating in relief. This week we should get a few more guys some work, hope they are ready. Seems a few of our guys have hit mid season slump or tired arm. Logan Bailey seemed to break through on Saturday and hopefully others will as well.
