Our coach has admitted several times he does not understand or keep up with RPI. Our AD would never admit how clueless he is.
I know! Let's depend on winning the tournament to get in. That has worked well in MBB.

We scheduled weak this year and lost to the worst possible teams we could have lost to. Last year we lost to weak teams and also had a open spot in the roster that several teams would have been glad to fill for us. Our coach chose to "rest his players" because he didn't understand RPI.
RPIs left out of tournament this year:
(30) Kentucky
(44) UCF
(46) Arizona
(47) Illinois
(48) Missouri
(49) South Alabama
(51) West Virginia
(53) Wichita State
(54) Sam Houston State
(55) Georgia Tech
Of note, (63) Washington did receive an at-large bid. Only 1 team in the field of 64 had a sub .500 conference record.
If RPI is so damn important, and so damn fickeled that us clobbering GSU twice hurt our chances, how could #63 Washington get it ahead of those, especially Kentucky at 30?
The series loss to Middle Tenn and getting swept by UALR doomed us...
Win those 3 nd we are in...
I don’t mind playing Grambling, but it should only be once a year and only at Tech preferably
I still say they KEY to an rpi build is NOT regional midweeks like those posted earlier but
Through good COLD weather schools - UConn, St Johns, Perdue, Michigan, teal
Two weekend series in Ruston annually against those type school will give us the opportunity for a good rpi easier
Work with McNeese, UNO, Tulane to work out a scheduling arrangement where St Johns plays here on a weekend, McNeese on Wed and then Tulane the following weekend
It benefits ALL parties involved

We lost 2x to Little Rock BEFORE we decided to make up a game in Grambling in front of a high school size crowd. No reason to make up that game other than our coach being lazy and our AD being cheap.
Kentucky lost over half their conference games. That was the deciding factor for the committee. Given all the SEC teams in, makes sense to exclude a team with a losing conference record.
In my opinion there have been some very accurate and intelligent comments made on this subject.
1. There’s no way we should play at Grambling, IF we even play them at all.
2. I really like the idea of making a package deal involving northern schools making a two week long southern swing.
Another hurtful loss was that ridiculous debacle when we hosted ULL and lost ugly a week after humiliating them at their place. I still don’t get how we could allow that to happen.
This thing about not playing well at home and losing to lesser teams better turn around and it better be turned around by the players. It shouldn’t take the coach to get the team up to defend the home field. That’s nothing more than a player taking pride in the jersey and logo.

It shouldn’t be that hard for us to get a series against a decent northern team early in the year. We’ve been a fair to good rpi team the last three years that would help any teams resume.
I disagree -
Got to go .500 in league to be post season eligible
Our fans need to get off the Grambling kick
We didn't make the tourney because we went 5-6 down the stretch at home and lost some other questionable games - go 8-3 in that same stretch and I bet we are probably in the tournament
In the tourney we couldn't hit the first game and continued to make the same tired mistakes we made all season the next two games
FAU was the better team - ties or not

I'm no SEC fan, but they are usually the toughest baseball schedule to play in. They were barely under .500 in conference. What is the point of the RPI? I think this is the reason the RPI is there, to help teams in tough conferences just like this example and to when someone goes 25-3 in conference to see how tough their conference was...
