Every day, college basketball is becoming more of a "rent a player" sport. It seems as if none of our basketball players attend LA Tech because they like the school, like the program, want the education and like the coaches. Nobody seems focused on winning a title here, and becoming a champion.

Are we becoming a "turnstile" program under Konkol?

Yep. That's why I said "college basketball is becoming more of a rent a player sport". I don't think this is good for the sport. It's probably good for the Duke's and Villanova's of the world, private school's who can recruit top flight athletes that possess fantastic academic credentials, and actually want to be in college. This should give those schools an edge because they can keep their kids in their programs longer. But for everyone else, men's basketball is becoming a turnstile sport.

Maybe this helps us keep Pemberton which I think would be an upgrade. I have always said he could be a better version of Washington on both ends of the floor. I am not sure about his 3 point shot but also not sure we need him jacking up 3s like Washington often did. I wonder if he will graduate this year and be a grad transfer? I hope so and good for him if that is the case.

I'm hearing estimates of 900 transfers at the D-1 level this year

330 schools there a bouts with 13 scholarship players basically 4,300 players

    900 transfers

    21% transfer rate

And that's not counting those who get out altogether due to other reasons

    WOW!

When are we gonna get a transfer? It's raining transfers and we aren't getting wet.

Wow. Not surprised though. I remember watching him in pre-season practice as a freshman and I thought he was one of the best players on the floor during the intrasquad scrimmage. He scored 20-25 pts if memory serves. His confidence was through the roof. Length, athleticism and solid stroke. It has been all downhill since then. He never developed here.

The transfer situation is not going away. And its not just basketball. Soccer and tennis are top 3 in xfer rate. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/6/29/15892394/ncaa-sports-transfers-basketball-football

    Think
about how many jobs youve walked away from for whatever reasons. Its much of the same here. You enter the relationship with the best intentions but some times it just doesnt work out. So you try to find a better fit...better pay...better boss...better coworkers...better location...better benefits. Because if youre going to invest so much time into it, you want to feel like its worth it. Thats what these kids are looking for.

Will be interesting to see how LT responds to the rash of xfers and what changes the staff makes to reduce it. If thats even what they want to do.

Losing a year due to transfer rules would probably be enough to deter me, but apparently it is that important to these players to sacrifice that.

Youre exactly right. The kids feel their situation is so bad/hopeless or that another situation is so much more valuable/beneficial...that they gladly give up that precious year. But, on the flip side...they get a free year of school to pursue masters/double major.

BTW...the penalty year for xfers is the 2nd worst rule in athletics...next to the "amateurism" rules that prevent players from profiting from their own likeness.

As he has played all three years at Tech, I believe he can redshirt and have one year. The interesting thing to me is that another school will have to (I think) provide two years of scholarships for one year of playing time.

21% would still be lower than the rate for all students.
