    UT-Arlington Basketball

UTA is a now a case study in “mid-majoritus”. They fired Scott Cross recently. Dude was an alum who had won 72 games in the last 3 years. Let that sink in... 24 wins per year in the Sunbelch is not enough if you aren’t dancing. Year before last they set the school record with 27 wins.

I honestly don’t know what to think about that.

The young AD (don’t remember his name) says he wants UTA to be the “new Gonzaga”; we will all know his name if he succeeds. They have a new arena, no football, are literally in the middle of a huge metro area and have hired a young dude full of piss and vinegar that is known as an awesome recruiter throughout the state of Texas.

Cross is a great coach by every standard, but UTA basketball should dominate in the Sunbelt. I think I am pulling for the visionary with the big kahonas... but if we have an opening anytime soon I might hire Scott Cross.

Didn't we just lose a coach to Georgia Tech?

Yes. Arguably our No. 1 recruiter, Coach Skinn, is changing Tech’s.

Why was he No.1? He was from DC . So are Bracey and Duruji. Coincidence?

Do you have a link for this. I don't see one.

Cross was beloved by the DFW community. Ogden has a great rep, but will have some repairing to do to really tap into that local market. There are several DFW kids on the roster already, including a few xfers entering their 1st year of eligibility. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Jamie Dixon picked up 2 of the most revered coaches in the plex with Barker and Cross. They will start to get 1st dibs on the metroplex 4 and 5 stars.

To your bigger point, it was a very ballsy move by the AD. And if he cant follow up with some funding to INVEST like Gonzaga...then he will be AD at a NAIA in no time.

The top players in the metroplex will always head to top 10 schools, maybe TCU can land one or two and I guess that is all they need. SMU was starting to land the local guys with Larry Brown as coach, but not so much anymore.

Mostly true about the top players. But TCU will have a crack at them...whereas before they would not be genuinely considered. They picked up at least 3 of the top DFW kids from last 2 classes. Granted...2018 was weaker in DFW compared to previous classes.

And SMU had a chance to be the premier spot...but a series of bad offers to out of staters over locals sent them right back to the starting blocks. Now...with a loaded 2019 DFW class...they will likely miss out on most, if not all of the top kids. I dont see TCU making that same mistake.

Speaking of SMU (such a strange and snobby university), I can't believe they still don't have a baseball program. Nada!

U may b right. As an outsider, I hope the bold prevails. I think I am pulling for them, probably because I have wanted someone with some Nads to make a similar declaration about my Alma Mater for a very long time. Unfortunately, not sure there is a single Nad in Power in Ruston... much less a pair.

I agree - I'm more interested in the example this sets rather than their specific success. Go big or go home.

    Re: UT-Arlington Basketball

I think it will be MUCH harder to be successful at UTA than the AD thinks. The top of the SunBelt is no cakewalk. And being a 1-bid league allows for zero margin of error. Way too many variables in a season that can affect tourney. UTA owned ROAD wins over several P5 schools...slipped a couple times in conference. No tourney.

And SMU not having baseball is borderline negligent.
