Wells just struck out swinging at a pitch up around his eyeballs.
Put your rally caps on.
9-4 Final.
Guess you guys didn't put your rally caps on...enough.
Tuff loss!
I’ve heard it said that ‘you can’t win a game in the first inning, but you can lose one’. Tech proved it tonight.
My suggestions are pitcher fielding practice, bunting practice, bus rides before home games and sleeping in hotels. Our home field is not home enough.
They'll get plenty of road time this week. The team's traveling to WKU via bus.
Back to our poor base running... ULL was giving us 2nd base in the 9th inning. Their 1st baseman was playing back 10 yards away from 1B nearly on the grass not holding our runners on. At least 3 of our runners could've easily trotted to 2nd base to take away the double play and get into scoring position on ULL indifference. We never once took it. Steele could've easily scored on the ball ULL's outfield misplayed had he been on 2B instead of 1B. Luckily he eventually scored on another play. Amazing how bad we are on the bases. We are recklessly aggressive on the bases when we should be passive, and then we are ultra passive when we should be aggressive.
Hot and cold........ I keep thinking we have hit our stride.... Need to get back on track now!
On the conservative base running in the 9th...that's straight from the book. You need base runners, and last night, a whole bunch of 'em. 1 run, 2 runs... doesn't matter. The theory is, get on base, and then play it "station to station." The team in front would trade 3 outs for X number of runs. Last night, that would have been 7 runs. So, since those 3 outs are so precious to the team trying to rally, you do nothing to risk giving one of 'em away.
Anyway, that's from Baseball 101, basic strategy.
Two more errors that were not counted because the score keeper felt sorry for us...
Should have been another E1 on the guy who already had 2. Also should have been an E3.
HORRIBLE at bats all night by the top of our order.
Once again, we try to score from 3rd with one out when that one run meant nothing and we HAD to have that base runner on. I'm not sure our HC understands baseball fundamentals at all.
Notice since Burroughs no longer coaches third we are less aggressive on base path. Granted at times I thought Burroughs was too aggressive, running us out of innings; however, we now are perhaps too conservative. When our hit total is around 10+ the need to be aggressive on the bases is not a big deal but when we need to manufacture some offense we gotta put some pressure on the defense. Need to find that happy medium.
Had a grand two of 3 base runners reach 2nd prior to the 7th inning - cant' be aggressive when there are NO baserunners
I hate the fact that our weak AD played the name game at their request - SICKENING
Makes me question our leadership even more - should of been ULL or UL- Lafayette on the scoreboard
