Ferguson Possible First Round NFL 2019 Draft Pick

An early 2019 mock draft in the Sporting News lists Louisiana Tech’s defensive end Jaylon Ferguson at the 30th pick saying “he has the potential to rise as first-round defensive end prospect....”

Re: Ferguson Possible First Round NFL 2019 Draft Pick

I'm going on record right now and predicting Jaylon Ferguson will have a MONSTER season in 2018, and be drafted in the 1st round of next spring's 2019 NFL draft. Yes, Ferguson had a "bad year" last season (in my book), hence why I was hoping he would return for the 2018 season.

Ferguson has an amazing frame, quick feet, good speed and appears to be strong as an Ox. Now that he's got another year of maturity under his belt, I could see Ferguson being a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given annually to college football's national Defensive Player of the Year.

Good luck Jaylon. IMO, you're our difference maker in 2018.

Re: Ferguson Possible First Round NFL 2019 Draft Pick

I have been screaming for a speed-rusher, in the mold of Walter Johnson, Eric Shaw, and we have one in Ferguson. Yes, opposing teams will double-team him and design special blocking schemes and plays to protect their QB. That means Ferguson has already disrupted opposing offenses. Making them get away from what they normally do. That is the power a speed-rusher, a "disruptor" has!

He'll still get his share of sacks and tackles behind the LOS, even with all the schemed blocking arrayed against him. BUT! more importantly, this frees up the rest of our DL and makes other designed blitzes more effective. I am optimistic we will have a very good defense this year. Still need someone to step-up as a LB. But the DL and DBs are promising.

    Defense wins championships.

Ironically, with Ferguson back at DE, Amik Robertson at DB and new arrival Connor Taylor at LB, I believe LA Tech's DEFENSE could be the strength of this team in 2018. How's that for a change?

Ferguson has 27.5 career sacks. He is closer to a "no-brainer" first round pick than a "possible". If anyone needs a refresher just watch the video of this 6'-5" 270 MONSTER DE!

I want a good defense, but not at the expense of offensive production. Winning or losing games 14-10 wont' sell tickets.

Maybe the Saints will draft Ferguson next (plus a young QB) to eventually replace All Pro DE Cameron opposite new 1st round pick from UTSA Marcus Davenport.

Nothing like being refreshed in the off season.

Just imagine...how many sacks would he have if holding were actually called.

IF we have a legit defense then most of the games won't end up 14-10. It'll be more like 51-10 like the Frisco Bowl. With our mediocre schedule (I'm being kind) a great defense would wreak havoc.

I agree. Our fans like to see the Dogs light up the scoreboard. But as long as J'Mar Smith is QBing, we may have trouble scoring.

So...we are to believe that our anemic offense, which avg. what? 25 pts/game with a mediocre at best defense, would score only 14 with a great defense?

Some of you are obviously clueless what great defense does. Again: Frisco Bowl

Or if we had someone else on the line who prevented the option of a double team.

So, our defense has to be good for 7-10 points a game. Like 2014. If that happens, I’m okay with it.

And that's the key: our DEFENSE will have to bring some points to almost every game.

Generating turnovers is about as fun as scoring points. Maybe it's the same thing. Manny's defense was fun to watch. Get turnovers, throw the ball. I mean, it isn't complicated.
