Some Democrats argue the phrase shouldn’t be taken literally and represents police reforms
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., weighed in Tuesday on the proposed New York City budget cuts to the police department she said don't go far enough, saying “defunding police means defunding police.”
“Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools,” the congresswoman said in a statement.
Establishment Democrats and progressives have debated over what “defund the police” actually means. Some argue the phrase shouldn’t be taken literally and just stands to represent police reforms.
“It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “If these reports are accurate, then these proposed ‘cuts’ to the NYPD budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. The fight to defund policing continues.”
The New York City Council and Mayor Bill de Blasio reached a deal Tuesday to cut $1 billion from the NYPD’s $6 billion budget.

'Squad' Dems Tlaib, Pressley introduce bill to defund police, give reparations
The House passed a sweeping police reform bill last month, but the legislation failed to move forward in the Senate.
Two congressional "squad" members unveiled a wide-ranging proposal Tuesday to defund police departments and establish a reparations program for African Americans and people harmed by the police and the criminal justice system.
Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, both Democrats, announced the BREATHE Act via a virtual conference call. Both lawmakers are part of the four-member "squad," a group of female progressive House members that includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
“We can start to envision through this bill a new version for public safety — a new vision for public safety, one that protects and affirms black lives,” Tlaib said, according to the New York Post.

Thousands of homeless people have been housed in several of San Francisco’s empty hotels in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
However, City Journal contributor Erica Sandberg told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Wednesday the policy has been an "absolute disaster"
"It's solving exactly nothing and as a matter of fact, it's making all the problems worse," said Sandberg, who described the scene inside the hotels as "about as bad as you can imagine, only exponentially worse."

City officials reportedly secured close to 5,000 rooms at several city hotels that signed up to house homeless and other members of at-risk populations who need to quarantine or socially distance themselves.
Controversy ensued after a report alleged that the city was providing alcohol, marijuana, and methadone to homeless addicts residing in the hotels.
"The people who are assigned as disaster workers, these people have been librarians," Sandberg told host Brian Kilmeade. "They are just paper pushers, administrators who are reassigned to these hotels and what they are telling me is beyond the pale.

Twitter came under fire at Israel’s Knesset Wednesday for flagging President Donald Trump’s tweets while allowing those by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei calling for Israel’s destruction to remain untouched. Incredibly, a Twitter official said Ayatollah Khamenei’s tweets do not violate the company’s rules against hate speech.
During a Knesset hearing on antisemitism in social media, international human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky asked Twitter’s regional policy head Ylwa Pettersson why the U.S. president’s tweets were labelled as violating the social media giant’s rules on “glorifying violence”, and on a separate occasion “abusive behavior”, but not those of Khamenei, who “literally called for the genocide of Israel and the Jewish people.”

There is at least one other platform, and probably others, that has started and has some membership, and slowly growing. A Facebook friend sent a blurb from it, showing its "rules." I meant to sign up, didn't and now can't remember its name.
A client started an on-line news and blogger site. They were (are) determined to stay neutral in their political leaning...well, NO leaning either way, they say. I have lost touch with them since they took on new partners, which came with a marketing firm in the mix. In other words, I helped them acquire funding which allowed them to launch, did some marketing for them which allowed them to grow some, and then they kicked me to the curb....I feel so used. Nah! actually I am happy for them. But, their membership and followers have plateaued the past two years. Still growing, but at a very slow rate recently. I visit their site on occasion and many posting on the blog take one position or another and it causes the moderators to have to intervene. I think the non-politically-explosive nature of the site is driving people away. Many folks are spoiling for a fight...Come to think of it, it's been several months since I last visited. It is rather "tame" for my tastes...too.
They go to all lengths to present the "news" and use italics to indicate when a sentence or a paragraph is more spin (opinion) and less just factual reporting. They use citations to sources with active links. Frankly, on-line, I think people want there to be controversary and angst. So, just start a Conservative i.e. true patriotic American platform as a counter to FB and Twitter. Like FOX News did in 1996, to give a voice to more than half the country without one.
And more anti- military by the Dems.
