Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine?
ULM isn't getting a med school. They're going to lie and say they do, but they wont.
^^^ This ^^^
ULM tried this with another sketchy school, but it fell through last year.
ULM is leasing out a spot on their campus for a branch of a private DO school and will share some facilities with them.
It will bring 100 or so extra folks to Monroe, so good for the city. Vast majority students, only a few taxpayers though. Maybe there's some synergy between the two schools, but I'm not sure this really benefits ULM in any meaningful way. We'll see what their spin is. They'll probably just try to spin that they have a med school when they really don't.
This is what I've always thought was the under-the-table deal between ULM's and ULL's presidents. ULM would let ULL become UL/Louisiana/University of Louisiana if ULL wouldn't object to ULM hosting satellite of a private DO school on their campus. Just another idiotic decision from ULM's admin. ULL's admin is laughing all the way to the bank... again.

If my memory serves me, I think this is the third time they've tried this sort of thing. One was a psych school and I forget the other. Don't think anything came of either. I dont know if the other two required ULM to provide them with a fresh 100k sqft building tho...

Ha! Almost feel bad for them.
Never happen.
Everything fits!
This article says the nlulm lettermen's group is the "Ulm L-Club". How appropriate. They certainly have plenty of "L's" to commemorate.
And, what better than a school of Osteopathy. nlulm has been rubbing people the wrong way for decades.
All this is hilarious. I love it.
Too bad we aren't trying to land something like this at Tech.
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?

It's not a "sketchy" school...founded and part of Virginia Tech with three campuses including Auburn; founded to educate doctors for rural America.
Blue Dawg and Dawg06 sound like Pop Ropp when he turned down the pharmacy school that ended up in Monroe and drug NLJC into the four-year college world.

I don't know what attracted VCOM to ULM, or maybe the attraction is that they can influence the campus to morph into its own image--kind of a backhanded compliment, if you will. As in "there's not much here, but we can make it into whatever we want to make it."
I would expect a symbiotic relationship in which ULM's support and/or feeder programs grow and have increased research interests and capabilities. And if the necessary clinical rotations don't exist in Monroe (maybe they do, I just don't know), then surely VCOM expects to help create those opportunities. They knew what was or wasn't there when they partnered with ULM.
If nothing else, bringing highly intelligent, skilled faculty and students to campus and the surrounding areas, seems a plus.
Oh I've got no doubt VCOM thinks its a good deal. It probably is for them.
