Re: 5/25 Elimination Game vs. FAU

Since I'm already ranting... Burn the black jerseys!

No Tech team should ever wear black. It isn't even cool anymore. Black unis were a fad like 6 or 8 years ago. Today some schools use black to hide their ugly/girly colors or because they have no secondary color. Tech has neither of those problems.

We are blessed to have so many good options: Blue, red, white, gray, pinstripes, 70-80's powder blue.

If we are going to lose, can we please look good doing it? Don't wear black, and patch up all the holes in our pants so we don't look like hobos. Thank you

    Ah, Tech.

Just another Tech sport that manages to lose its way into the end of the game and season.

There is not a single sport at Tech that is able to finish.

A young team has to be coached up. We never were. If anything we were coached down.

    - Working pitchers too long.
    - Line ups that our coach refused to adjust all year.
    - Roster spots being used up by players who NEVER contributed while more deserving players were cut.
    - Running out of innings due to poor coaching.

Being realistic going in this team was better than I expected them to be, but I also expected our coach to perform better. He did not, but we are stuck with him and I"m afraid we are stuck with under achieving as a team which seems to be "who we are".

The NSU Demons have won three straight in the SLC Tourney and play UNO for the auto-bid. Freed from Coach Choke they again have a chance to go to the NCAAs.

    Just saying...

Season was over after the loss to Rice. Everything after that was practice for next year. I wonder if we got some one in the engineering department to build Rice’s coach a cybernetic body if he’d consider coming to Ruston?

Burroughs will be here for sure another two years. Aside from his first year at NW St he has proven 3 things as s Head Coach - he can recruit; he can win 32-36 regular season games just short of conference titles & he has yet to have post season success.
I guess the powers that be will have to decide if that is good enough to keep him around for years to come or is post season success expected at some point. With all he has coming back I think everybody is expecting a post season bid next year, it certainly won’t be due to lack of talent.

    Not when it mattered.

We can win any game you like, except if it matters.

PD you have got to remember, we lost every starter except Skelton from the previous team. A whole new roster, a whole new staff to coach with Burroughs and you think this team wasn't coached up? 39 wins and a 2nd place finish in CUSA begs to differ. Have we ever finished that high since joining the league? Burroughs gave at least 4 other players a chance to produce but they failed to stick-Warken, Bailey (1B), Wallace, and Hackbarth.

The biggest pieces of evidence against your argument is that half way through the season he moved Wells to 1B and Young to starting 2B. That was a great move. He also let Netterville DH and he played more as he got ready and the season progressed. Both of those FR were certainly coached up and performed great for true FR. We did not have much depth in the OF after Hopkins got hurt in the fall. Who else did you want him to give a chance to?

Hate it for our guys that, barring some miracle, the season is over but we should be better next year from their experiences and the expectation bar is going to be high for sure.

108 years! So, we Tech fans will just have to wait another few decades or so....

I remember who we lost and I remember that team was also horribly coached. I've said over and over this year that we had the DEFENSE to win. He is a good recruiter, just not good at putting all the pieces together. I'm not sure why you think Bailey failed at 1B. He was our best first baseman and pitcher. I believe this is why our coach had him as the Sunday starter all year rather than the Friday guy (where he should have been). He always had an excuse not to play one of our best hitters because he was "resting" him for Sunday.

You have some bad recall on the Wells/Young moves. He moved Wells to 1st the first weekend in May (Middle Series) He had been experimenting at first base with his juco guys for the entire season going into that series. Up to that point he had still been subbing Wells in at 2nd base from time to time, sitting his best OB% guy in Young (who he also had in the 8 or 9 hole). Totally mismanaged situation. Add to that that he continued to play two position players who could not hit in the last 1/3 of the season.

Neither of his Freshman were coached up. They are baseball players who were developed when they arrived. If anything they were held back from playing to their full potential. It took him all year to get Netterville in at DH when he could have been playing two other positions. He worked Young in late as well. The LF position needed to be tinkered with in the worst way, but he absolutely refused to move him out of the lineup. There are at least 6 guys who could have been playing in LF or 3rd, but he refused to make those moves.

You still have not defended our coach's base running blunders or his late hook on pitchers. Those mistakes cost us several games this year. You think 39 wins and 2nd place means something. It means no more than 30 wins and 6th place (what I was hoping for going in). We got the same results...sitting home in June.

FWIW, he failed last year by not getting the team to a regional. This year he gets a pass because he was rebuilding, but HE still under achieved, not the team.
