Have we ever finished that high since joining the league? Burroughs gave at least 4 other players a chance to produce but they failed to stick-Warken, Bailey (1B), Wallace, and Hackbarth.
The biggest pieces of evidence against your argument is that half way through the season he moved Wells to 1B and Young to starting 2B. That was a great move. He also let Netterville DH and he played more as he got ready and the season progressed. Both of those FR were certainly coached up and performed great for true FR. We did not have much depth in the OF after Hopkins got hurt in the fall. Who else did you want him to give a chance to?
Hate it for our guys that, barring some miracle, the season is over but we should be better next year from their experiences and the expectation bar is going to be high for sure.
