    Freshman Softball Star

One of Tech softball's biggest challenges this season was the loss of slugger Taria Page right before the CUSA tournament.

Plano HS in Texas has a great team in the playoffs. The girl (Lindsay Edwards) who launched this HR over the scoreboard will be a freshman for the Lady Techsters in 3 months. https://twitter.com/DMNGregRiddle/st...03222736187392

This is more about the NCAA than it is just about softball. Did any of you see the WCWS game last night between UCLA and Florida. If so, then you saw a bad call at home that probably handed the win to UCLA. The replay technology was present that proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that the UCLA runner was out and the inning should have been over.

Why does the NCAA ignore the ability to right an umpires honest mistake in a game of this significance? The NCAA can run all the ads they want to advocating their concern for the student athletes, but in view of this incident, they are meaningless. The integrity of the game should be protected therefore assuring that both teams are playing on a level field. If UCLA goes on to win the WCWS, their victory will always be tainted, and every member of the UCLA team will know it.

It is way past time for the NCAA to improve the quality of the umpiring--both softball and baseball. I have seen time and time again at Tech baseball games how the only thing consistent about the poor quality of the umpiring behind home plate, is the inconsistency of the calls. Yet if a coach dares to question the umpire explusion is almost always automatic. If the NCAA does not want the coaches to say anything about the calls, then the NCAA should do everything in its power to assure the players, first, and the fans, second, that they --the NCAA--are providing the very best umpiring possible. The NCAA isn't.

Women's basketball has had the same issues for decades IMHO. The NCAA is blind to their poor quality of refs and umps in women's sports in general.
