What Are The Top 3 Wins for Skip Holtz in Joe Aillet Stadium?

Curious minds want to know. We all know Skip is impressive in bowl games, but this is more about Tech fans getting “bang for their buck” at home since Skip arrived.

Somebody mentioned us beating Fresno at home a few years ago, and it got me thinking..."have we had any big wins at home like that on Skip’s watch?”

2016 Western Kentucky is the only one that popped up in my mind immediately.

Pretty sad if a win over former Belcher, WKU, is his most impressive home win. I can't think of one that would top it though.

    Had to go look...

    2013 beat USM 36-13
    2014 beat WKU 59-10

Given our overall, especially Skip's record vs USM, I guess '13 can be considered impressive. And given the lopsided score, and that WKU went on to win a bowl game that year, I suppose the '14 beatdown of the Toppers is impressive.

I'm not sure Skip even has a winning record in Aillet. Let me check...

Yes, he does. He's 19-9 at Aillet. Shows you how perceptions can sometimes cloud our minds. Last year he was 3-4 at home, and those disappointments combined with the home losses to Tulane, NSU and USM (2), had me thinking he hasn't faired well at home. Not that 19-9 at home is anything to brag about.

I don’t think he has 3 home wins to brag about at all. Not completely his fault since scheduling is one of the myriad things our AD doesn’t worry much about.

I can't really think of any. We have blown a few opportunities for a quality win at home. WKU and USM look to be as good as it gets right now. Need to take advantage when we have an opportunity at home.

    2013:

    Lamar: n/a
    Southern Miss: 1-11

    2014:

    UTEP: 7-6
    UTSA: 4-8
    WKU: 8-5
    Rice: 8-5

    2015:

    Southern Univ: n/a
    Florida Intl: 5-7
    ULL: 4-8
    MTSU: 7-6
    North Texas: 1-11

    2016:

    S Carolina St: n/a
    UTEP: 4-8
    WKU: 11-3
    Rice: 3-9
    UT San Antonio: 6-7

    2017:

    Northwestern LA: n/a
    South Alabama: 4-8
    UTSA: 6-5

Six wins, in four years, over teams that finished with a "winning" record. (7-6 and 6-5 barely count, but whatever).

    Six.

    Wins.

    In.

    Four.

    Years.

Top 3? That's HALF OF THEM. Just pick WKU and two randomly!

At this point, he is under contract until we fire him. At his current 7-6 or 8-5 clip, no one is busting down the door to his office to get him. So his “contract” with us doesn’t have an expiration.

What about Mississippi State? They must have been ranked higher than some on that list.
