I suppose Kansas could be going to the playoffs if all that experience wasn’t in losing.

Hopefully that translates to improvement...especially at QB. Interesting statistic is that Tech hasn’t returned the same starter at QB in consecutive years in something like 7 or 8 years.

I think my problem is 'What team will show up for a game?' We are bothered by last year because there were some definite games that we should have won last year but didn't. So do we have a unified team?

    John McKay Quotes:

Kickers are like horse manure. They're all over the place.

When asked about his team’s execution: “I’m in favor of it.”

We didn’t tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking.

Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.

We’ve broken down the expansion teams and they’ve averaged winning 2.7 games their first year, which to me is rather difficult. I figured out the 2, but the .7 has got me wondering what the hell is going on.

Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can’t play football worth a damn.

On his team’s blocking strategy: “Hold when you’re at home and don’t hold when you’re on the road.”

If you have everyone back from a team that lost ten games, experience isn’t too important.

Great quotes from McKay! Funny stuff.

Don't remember who it was, but some college coach was giving a press conference just before their first game. That team had struggled mightily the previous season, and it was an experienced team too. The coach says, "The good news is we had a lot of seniors last year."

And still one of my favorites, ole Lou Holtz while at Notre Dame. They were ranked #1 and the week of the Navy game (and Navy was pretty good too, a bowl team as usual) Lou touts all the great things about the Navy team. They are averaging 30 pts a game, have a great senior QB, blah, blah, blah...and ends his press conference with, "we will be lucky to get out of there with a win this Saturday." ND wins 59-7 and during the post game presser, a reporter reminded Lou he had said the Irish would be lucky to win. Lou Holtz, in as serious a look a coach could have, absolute deadpan expression, says "Okay....so we were very lucky."

    Re: In One Year...

After losing 3 games in 2017 by only 1-point each, and a 4th game in Double OT (after having an 11-point lead with only 1:30 left in the game) it's going to be interesting to see if this team has finally LEARNED how to win in 2018. I'm convinced it was a MENTAL thing in 2017. Our guys will be more experienced in 2018, so I'm hoping that makes a big difference.

I don't think I can take another year like 2017. At least not yet. Skip Holtz left a lot of money on the table in 2017. And that was unfair to the players and the fans. It was just a crying shame.

Another positive is this Fall will be Louisiana Tech's largest enrollment ever, which should lead to some really good home crowds this year if we take care of business on the field. J'Mar and the WRs have been working all summer on resolving the timing issues.

    First scrimmage is this Saturday.

First 3 games will set the tone for the home crowd. USA- win? Good. People like wins. SU? First game in front of the home crowd- win with ease. Give the crowd confidence to come back for more. LSU? Make it respectable. Win and we might get a jolt of interest from those on campus who don’t have Tech as their favorite team.

    A couple more............

"Always remember.............. Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David." Keep this in mind when we upset a 1-2 LSU team this season.
"If lessons are learned in defeat, our team is getting a great education." Let's hope we learned some lessons last season.

Do you remember what our leadership did to our students last year? They care more about Southern fans being in the stands in our home opening weekend than Tech students.

What? Getting rid of frats? Its not like they stay for the games anyway unless they get recognition.

They’ll stay if it’s worth their time. You gotta put an entertaining product on the field.
