Wow
Their band is fantastic. It's a different sytle of band. If you are expecting a moderate volume, crisp, clean, precise sound, you set your expectations incorrectly. HBCU bands are designed to be very loud and as far as HBCU bands go, there is none better than Southern. Other HBCU bands are only about volume and playing as loud as possible, clarity be damned. Southern actually controls their sound at that volume.
And those who say their music is unrecognizable: that has less to do with their playing, and all to do with you not knowing popular music other than country since 1990. Southern gets major kudos too for going outside the normal Hip-Hop/R&B for their shows. When they were here last time, they played a song by an Alt-rock band from 1998, "You get what you Give". Then it was a very current, wildly popular song by Bruno Mars, then one of the most recognizable Michael Jackson songs in his catalogue.
Being someone from a more "traditional" marching band background, watching them is a treat.
Top college bands I've seen in person -
1) Fightin' Texas Aggie Band
2) USC Trojan Marching Band
3) Southern University Marching Band
4) Million Dollar Band
5) The Pride
I haven't seen Ohio State's Band in person or I'm sure they would possibly jump to #2 or #3
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
All you ever wanted to know about bands and more.....
This reminds me of one time I went to a band concert and a football game broke out.
I guess them spelling out the name of the song on the field didn't help either?

Where is the Southern guy who we discriminated against last time regarding our RV provisions????
