He went to my church when I was a young.

He was always glad to show off the club foot to any kids who asked (to their mothers' inevitable dismay). He didn't take off his shoe or anything. But would just smile while we ogled the stumpy foot and whispered "Longest field goal everrrrrrr. Sixty-three yards, maaaaaaaaan."

A fellow I worked with, a big ole boy, got into a fist fight with him at a girls summer softball tournament. It appears Mr. Dempsey is a smart ass. When asked who won, the guy says I grabbed and him and hung on until the cops broke it up. No way I was letting him get a chance to kick me.
